No inverters in Crete trucks?

I've been told they don't always let people come over to Crete very easily. I'd be glad to do Reefer for what Shaffer pays, but when you can do Crete for 1 CPM less, why put up with all the BS that comes with reefer? I think they have to force some people to stay.

 

Thing is, would you actually make more money with Shaffer? More live loads, you'd be depending on long hauls and actually getting detention pay. I'd think it'd be easier to get bigger miles at Crete, and you don't need many miles to make up for 1 cpm, so it'd really just be about beating shaffers detention pay (which generally would mean they had even less miles that week).

 

I was with Shaffer. Avg length of haul 450 miles. Talked to several Crete guys got way more.

 

Using a 1500 W inverter through a cigar lighter/power outlet is ASKING FOR A FIRE...the plastic can't endure the heat at that wattage.

 

i use a Cobra 700 watt thru the cig lighter, no problems. Sure, it only puts out 150 watts, it can't power much, but the larger heat sink keeps the fan from blowing, keeping me from running down the batteries.

the only time I need to idle to recharge is if I'm on a reset or in 100 plus weather.

I play on the fully charged laptop, or can run the tv and DVD player.

 

wow been off the road for a month looking for a company that's allow inverters, an apu would be nice but they(the trucking companies) think drivers aren't worth that much money(most companies), have access to a waeco fridge kw/pete but dont know if companies would let me install it. i want a microwave too. to me these things relieve some stress while being on the road, you know not being home but some basic comforts! i know some divers think man up, put on your big boy pants that crap. if i didn't know these things were possible it wouldn't matter but every company talks about how their drivers are of such great concern to them but i can't see it. I don't understand why other drivers attack someone like me because i would like to have these things, how does it hurt them?

 

I agree completely. We live in that truck and creature comforts become very important. Some companies expect you to live truck stop to truck stop which is expensive. You can easily blow 200 a week on food alone eating from truck stops.

The other thing I get irritated about is idling. How dare they tell drivers at what temperatures they are allowed to idle. Everybody is different. Imagine if I came to your house and told you where to set your air-conditioning at when you sleep? If you dictate to me that I can't idle my truck within certain temperature ranges and I can't sleep because of it, it's also a safety issue.

 

Most reefer outfits have apu's.
