Why don't wet let our euro friend answer that. He is over there so has much easier access to real time prices. Brand new, after taxes and fees, a truck that closest resembles a US class 8 highway sleeper trucks.

You sawing off the engine ? Cutting the fuel tanks ? Magic transmission , that is some how 30 inches shorter? Smaller tires ? Do away with the emissions ? Driveline has to go some where , emissions have to stay. Fuel tanks have to stay at current cap. Again it is going to stick out the front , or out the back. Oh I got it we make it a cab over, remove seats and put fuel tanks in the cab. Got it.

I will have to side with Caesar on this one. Look at how much unused frame space we have on most of our trucks. If a guy were so inclined to drop a COE cab onto a conventional truck you could easily slide the drive axles up by the amount of hood you removed. Or add a sleeper that is another 3 or 4 feet longer and keep the same wheelbase.

The truck we were talking about was the one I had posted. image.jpeg There is not 30 inches to be shortened . As a example , a similar speced cab over . image.jpg the cab over's wheel base is a tad longer . And the same overhang on the front axle. Yet the driver is that much closer to a accident .

Not a problem NM. I know how to shorten my truck (green and white one) maybe 18 inches. But we did not want to use different sized fuel tanks . 50 on one side 150 on the other. But that opens new issues. You being a mechanic , as I once was, know today's fuel return systems have a hard enough time working correctly with equal sized tanks. But as you can see , why? It's already shorter then the Benz despite the hood. A lot of home work and planning went into designing these units, they knew the same truck could be pulling triples in the rookies , and a few days later be in Jersey City. You would not believe some of the docks I have had to hit. Back in between two other trailer and not have ten feet in front of you . We do not need a sleeper , sleep at hotels.
