So I just started with this company, and was told that I could totally get a TV and ps4 to run in my truck to entertain me on my down time. We'll I got a 300w inverter and I notice that I can't seem to run both my ps4 and TV for more than a few minutes before my ps4 shuts off. My friend says it's because im not idling the truck while gaming, but I have a 5 min auto shut off. Is this what's happening? Or do I just need a stronger inverter

might be a label on your tv / ps4 showing power consumption. add it up and see if your inverter can handle it. also, 300 is probably peak not continuous power.

An inverter is only good for 150-175 watts when plugged in a 12v socket. That may be your issue right there.

That's right. No matter the rating of the inverter, if it is plugged in to a 12V socket you will only get around 150W.
That is not enough to power a TV and a PS4.
A 300W inverter would be hard pressed to power those things even if wired directly to the batteries.
And certainly not without idling the truck to maintain a constant voltage.
You need both a stronger inverter and a way to disable your idle shut off.
Or you could get a second inverter and power it off a different plug - that is not wired to the same fuse. Run the TV and PS4 off each one.
You would still need to idle the truck to keep the batteries charged.Dominick253 Thanks this. -
Change companies to one that has Tripac APU.

A work around is to purchase a 12 volt TV screen or equivalent. Those cost alot of money. (We still have our dual voltage TV from 9-11)
Your console demands a flow of electricity, those little 300 watt inverters cannot support it. You want something huge. like 3000 watt peak and 2000 continious. (So that it will adequately cool itself during minor consumption like gaming...)
Having a tractor with auto shut off is a no go. Find employment with a company that has a certain APU or a tractor that does not have the 5 minute shut off. There are work arounds to defeat the shut off, but most all companies fire you on detection of such a work around.
I hate to think you hired on because you can game on down time. You should be restting, laundry, feeding and hydrating to maintain strength against the rest of the pending work week. If you wanna game, do it inside the truckstop like everyone else.Lepton1 Thanks this. -

Other people had best answer, just get another cheap 150+ inverter that way you have one for TV and one for ps4. You can go several hour or more on batteries. It all depends on the batteries, how new they are and how cold it is outside. I have gone 3 days in summer on new batteries. Then in winter when cold you might only 2 hours. I'm guess your truck has a low voltage cutoff. Most cut off power at about 11.9 or 12v. From 13.5 to 11.9v you have used about 70% of you battery power so. That why the cut off and the colder and older the batteries are the less time you have.

Batteries is something you want to protect at all times in trucking.
I don't know about you, but I cluck and nurse all my batteries. And in time they have proven able to give me 4 hours that I needed to get the truck driven on them to a proper shop back in the days of old iron non computerized stuff.
I hate to be so contrarian but Batteries is a form of power that I consider very valuable and not to be thrown away or frittered in gaming.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
@x1Heavy no offense as I usually after with you on most things, but are you nuts? That #### inside isn't gaming, it's legalized theft. Trust me I used to work on those types of machines prior to driving, it's not worth it
