Looking to buy a kw t600. Just not sure on the engine. As usual I know CATs have more power but worse mpg. I'm leaning more towards cummins. Not sure which model or year is best to look for. So anyone with experience on these trucks & engines wanna give some advice I will really appreciate it.
I haul containers in the Midwest. Out of the Chicagoland area. Usually local but also do some regional runs. (in, wi, ia, mi) 300 mi radius max one way. But home every day.

Not too sure if someone else has posted a similar post. I'm actually new to this forum

Why not a freightliner with a detriot. Cheaper to rebuild.

No matter what truck you buy, you're going to have to put a few bucks into it within 30-90 days.
Find something that's in good shape and hope for the best.
I've never worked with this dealership but they sell a lot of trucks that do the cross border freight in south Texas. They have quite a few T600, Freightliners, etc. duratrucks.comBigrigmayo93 Thanks this. -
I suggest you learn how to buy a truck first, then figure out which one to buy.

You mean like show up with cash & buy it? lol. Those type of dumb ### comments won't help me at all. If you never owned one of those trucks then your advice won't help me. Read the post over. I need advice on the engines that come in those trucks.swaggerjacker Thanks this.

It comes down to year more than anything else. If your pulling containers local mpg is going to suck whatever engine you pick, and when you stretch out go slow to conserve. I'm personally a Cat fanboy, but it really comes down to year model. You want to avoid anything that is 1st gen dpf or def. maybe someone with current dpf CAT will chime in, but with Cummins the DPF system has to be recalibrated by a dealer anytime you clean or replace it, or it will throw codes and derate. @ the Fort Worth Cummins shop it was normally a 72hr turnaround just due to how busy the shop was, worth factoring in to your business plan.
Lepton1 and Bigrigmayo93 Thank this.
