speaking as x military myself, I think you'll find that you thrive in this environment.......military folks know how to keep commitments and follow through......you'll be fine.

Eh, that I'd think about it. Said they'd send students to me in a rental since I don't live close to an OC. Home weekends. Essentially a "same money and home on weekends" spiel. It's certainly tempting. But.... I don't know enough to be an effective trainer I don't think. And I really enjoy my privacy. And I don't trust them not to kill me. But being home every weekend would be pretty great, especially if I could manage something close to the otr money I pull in when I stay out for weeks at a time.

I certainly don't want a student driving my truck in the winter and I want that experience for myself, so I'm putting it in the [maybe next spring] box.

yeah, I'd definitely wait till the spring and, frankly, I couldn't stand anyone else in the truck but me and my stuffed bear.....including my wife that I love very much. I guess it's all about you. Some folks thrive on having someone in the truck with them. Me? I can't stand it.

Its challenging being a TE, I waited 3 years before I gave it a shot and realized not for me. Some were spot on and ready to go but I noticed the gene pool was more of a gene puddle as time went on. That and a KDUB is not student friendly. @gentleroger must have the patience of JOB

    Friday and gentleroger Thank this.

I couldn't do it either. I too enjoy my privacy. Always willing to give a helping hand to someone but I'll sleep alone thank you. I just barely make most of my appointments anyway and I take the minimum required breaks. I don't see how it would work if I had a trainee driving and backing unless dispatch were to magically get more flexible. Probably why we have no TEs at IP and haven't at least in the year that I've been on.

@Friday - I think you'd make a good TE, once you get a winter under your belt. You don't want to be learning about all the fun winter can bring and teaching it at the same time.

In addition training in the winter sucks. It's very hard to be patient when it's cold enough to freeze the cannon balls off a brass monkey.
