I've seen it many times - construction, accidents, left/right lane ends, traffic in all lanes slows/stops and 4wheelers get impatient and very creative such as moving from lane to lane, crossing median and passing on shoulder. At the same time I see "professional drivers" won't let anyone to merge by leaving 3 inches between them and a car in front of them, holding up both lanes and driving on the shoulder...WHY?? Be professional, stay in your line of travel and keep a proper following distance.
Just becouse some genius in a prious decided that a shoulder is now open for travel does'nt make it so. If you driving your rig half way on that shoulder to stop him from passing you and he hits you...quess what? You are as guilty as he is. You are not suppose to be there. You suppose to stay in your lane of travel. You can change your lane of travel using a turn signal when it's safe to do so. Some creative lawyer may even say that you hit him while he was disabled on that shoulder. And your dash cam won't prove a thing..He gets a ticket you loose your job...your income..your wife...your house...
Life is #####. Then you die..
Holding up 4wheelers at traffic jams..

Oh young "professional driver" is it?
Anytime a car hits you your career is at risk. Ever hear of a 'preventable?' I think not.
Always best to manage your space to keep cars from making any mistakes anywhere near you. That is to prevent them from making mistakes. Understand.
That prevention will take different forms depending on the circumstances.KB3MMX, pattyj, dunchues and 1 other person Thank this. -
Did somebody prevent you from driving on the shoulder to cut off a couple hundred cars because you thought you were a genius?

What 4 wheelers? There is always someone who will manage the traffic well enough.

It doesn't really affect me if a few cars get in front of me by driving like jackwagons. If they get in an accident because of it, that's their own fault. Sure, I could prevent them from passing to prevent a potential accident from occuring, but then why not drive the speed limit in the left lane to prevent people from speeding?
From my experience driving motorcycles and splitting lanes and such, I can drive in a manner that doesn't even affect the flow of traffic, but people will still get angry due to jealousy. They simply cannot stand the fact that someone can fit where they can't, even if it doesn't affect them in the slightest.Boattlebot and Dharok Thank this. -
A couple of problems there. I'm not preventing an accident: 1. I'm saving me time waiting for the arseholes to be let in at the front of the line. 2. Can't stop the lane splitter, guess why? I'm not looking for him, and probably better off for it.

I have blocked both lanes of traffic if there is a problem with one lane ahead to prevent those cars from running up to the front and causing problems. I have be thank by law enforcement for doing so. It just depends on the situation.
