So I approached Knight Transportation (Nashville) about possibly driving for them, explaining my little bit of experience: I have owned my class A since 1994; drove professionally until 2000; Have driven the last 9-years pulling 48' dry for a local high school band (albeit part time). Knight says that I need 40-hours schooling at an accredited training facility (not Knight), before they can hire me, and put me with another driver for refresher training. I argued that it would cost me thousands of dollars to go through a course, and I did not feel it was relevant to my current situation. I was told by a recruiter that it would not cost thousands and besides, it would be reimbursed by Knight upon graduation...
Policy is policy, I do not aim to change it... but does this sound like the right course of action to take based on my experience? Do you, as experienced drivers, think I should go back to CDL school in order to hire on to Knight? Or anywhere else for that matter?
Do I plan on do it? No, I do not, as Danny Herman and Titan Transfer are offering 1-month refresher training before assigning me a truck... at no cost. Anyway, Knight looks to be out of the running as a potential company to pull for.

If you already have offers from DHT and Titan, why are you dickering around with Knight?
I would go with either DHT or Titan and forget Knight. Unless, of course, your career goal is to become a YouTube celebrity trucker. Then you should definitely go with Knight.KillingTime, HalpinUout, CrappieJunkie and 1 other person Thank this. -
No, stardom is definitely not my thing LOL! I have a number of other carriers that hire from Tennessee that I would like to ping (Freymiller, Abilene etc), but Knights reply really caught me off guard. And yeah, Knight is off the radar.

Schneider is doing a refresher course again, not sure what the cost/contract is though. Worth calling them to ask imo.

40 hours is only a week; the usual "full course" is 160 hours minimum, o/p.

I drove from 1970 until 2009. I know that I don't need anyone's "refresher course" as far as driving. How to elog and their way of doing things, yes.

One of many companies on the back burner for research...
I did look into it; a local community college has the two week training @ $1200 - Just the driving and road test. I have been driving part time for the past 9-years, so refresher driving is not an option at this point.G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
What do you mean by driving part time? Class A?

Class A pulling a 48' dry van for a high school marching band. July - April.

Schneider might take you without a refresher. I occasionally moved trailers locally for Penske, but had been running class B since 2011. They hired me without a refresher or making me go through training again.
