Is millis transfer still a good company too work for

If you test with Jamie you can ask him to bring a manual for you to test with. If your trainer has an auto, though, it may be tough to test on a stick once you're used to an auto. They are extremely different. Personally, I love my auto now that I'm used to it.

 

I think so, but not 100% sure on that. We do service a couple distributors there, from the Miller brewery.

 

We do, it's just a lot more rare than Miller. I probably go to that Anheuser in Columbus once every six months - the last time a week ago.

 

Once you have driven a manual at school it's like riding a bike, trust me. Greg told me when I was considering training that if a student didn't want the restriction we could go to richfield and drive the school truck for a day or so to let him feel comfortable in the manual again, and then test. It's unfair to every student going thru there to have that restriction put on their license since they are the ones paying for it. In my opinion all trainers should have manuals but Millis doesn't see it like that unfortunately.

 

I don't see the benefit of going all automatic. The transmissions are more expensive and there is zero difference in fuel usage. If autos were a TRUE automatic, I would accept the argument that they are safer for an inexperienced driver. However, they are not a true automatic. They are a manual transmission being shifted by a computer, plain and simple. That being said, I love my auto and wouldn't go back.

 

I don't know, but always assumed part of the reason in general with companies going to automatics was for less spent on repairing/rebuilding transmissions after people that don't shift so great grind on them and screw them up. In the long run extra up front cost of one is cheaper then upkeep over the lifespan. Could be totally off base, just what I figured.

You may be completely correct , I have no idea. Someone far above my pay grade decided it was the smart way to go. I can't and won't question it because it's none of my business . I will state again, though, that I love this truck and I don't want a stick at this point .

 

I believe it's a combination of what Michael6890 said and better consistent fuel mileage. More companies are switching to autos / automated manuals and eventually it will be the norm. Just like power steering, brakes etc...

Years ago you could readily get cars with manual transmissions and now days they are nearly non-existent. Years ago manuals always obtained better fuel economy than the same car with an auto. Now it is the opposite due to advances in technology, if the car even has a choice of both.
