Is millis transfer still a good company too work for

    as for super singles...

    personally I don't like them. I wouldn't buy them but then again I don't own the truck. they like to hydroplane more than duals. Can't remember the last time I drove them on snow. They also like to destroy rims when you are loaded heavy and blow a tire. That can get real expensive, but like I said, I don't pay for them. You also don't have the ability to limp to an exit or truckstop to get a tire fixed which means you are waiting on road service.

    But, they say they save money. Funny thing is, new trucks come in with duals on them and they swap them out for super singles. Then they swap the new duals back on to them before they sell them. I hear they get a better resale value on a truck with duals.

    I think it's all about the fuel savings, because singles have less drag (allegedly). I've blown a tire in a trailer that had duals and another one that had singles, and of the two I could at least limp the one with duals to a nearby Love's. The one with singles had to have a whole new rim put on, on the side of the day road. I'm with you, though, I don't pay for the truck.

    I think they could really expand if they did duals and chaining, that way we could run more west of the Mississippi.

    they looked at running west before. we have some guys that do run out west. We used to have duals. My first couple of trucks had duals on them.

    There's a rumor that we're going to start running beer out of a Miller north of Denver, but we all know how rumors are.

    I had to deal with icy parking lots at truck stops a couple times today, and a receiver that didn't plow their lot very well. Didn't have any issues except when I was sliding my tandems .

    I just inquired about refresher training, and a lady from Millis replied that all that is offer is complete CDL schooling... bummer!

  9. Hello all. This is my first post to the forum, and I used the search feature and found this thread, and read through all of the posts. I was just accepted by Millis and I am to attend class January 16th in Cartersville, GA. I have already paid my $100 over the phone, and realize I have to pay $400 on the first day of class. I was also told I needed to get a physical exam and my CDL learner's permit. Does anyone know what the approximate cost will be to get the physical exam as well as the learner's permit? I have 2 boys and I am married. My 2 boys are ages 3 and 1, and I want to get my OTR experience while they are young before going regional. (My wife is fine with this). I have 0 experience driving a big rig, and I don't know exactly what I am getting myself into, but I do have a personal friend who is a Millis Transfer OTR driver and he has kept me well informed of what a great company it is to work for. I have thought about getting my CDL for a long time, and I now have the opportunity.

    I would guess costs will vary from state to state but I could be wrong. If I remember right the cost of the permit here in Illinois was 50 bucks and when I renewed my physical a couple months ago it was 90, but could be very different where you are at.

    Might want to put your location (at least state you are in) in your profile, it might help people to answer if they know where you are.

    I got my first DOT physical done in Marietta at a Concentra, and it was $90; mind you, this was nearly three years ago. Any Walgreens with a clinic also does them, but I don't remember how much (which is sad since that's where I did my most recent DOT physical). In Georgia, the CDL learner's permit is $10.
