to i believe a good radio shop are the ones who are honest.... there are alot of people out there who says and believes they can make the radio tune up and perform better than others now just because they tuned doesn't mean they did well. Any one who charges more than 45 dollars to do a peak and tune means they dont even complete the job or the complete it and took out something they dont need to take out especially.
Now the clipping of the D9 isnt an issue at all that is an actual professional way of doing a peak and tune, you need think of the modulation circuit as like a govnor that is set in a vehicle if the govnor is set up for you to only go 65 mph than you cant really get the use of all the HP that your vehicle has. so the d9 was just acts govnor when its snipped you can use 100% of your power in the radio if you dont then what you get if you dont do so is that your radio will lose modulation during the duration of you time talking but after a while it rebuild its self back up.
trust me or not i grew up in this stuff i have done business face to face with galaxy and connex, as well with General and know this very well and they say to in order to peform best im not no trucker but i am a radio technician.

It is only my opinion but i would rather have some one work in the back so they are getting watched and told on how to do their job. I mean im sure you don't like your dispatcher telling you how to drive or what to do because you know what you need to do, YOU know how to drive, so you want to do it yourself same with technicians. They know what they need to do and don't need your help doing it. Im sure you ask questions when you arent sure about something and you always have the power to do so but question is do you really know how cb works? The person that you went to did the work in front of you and as long as he knows something you dont he can just say random facts. So you just have to believe him because the truth of the matter is you dont know what tr32 is and they can tell you anything you want to hear. oh you want more power coming up let me take out this transistor to give it to you. oh you want to hear better ok let me take your head your head out of your ###. you know magician can fool you even though you are very focused on his hand movements. Now im not saying all the people working in the back on your radio the best because truly some of them aren't i can tell the work done from cali to maine to florida you cant fool me. CB shops who actually have a family that they need to provide for are trustworthy because they need good connections and need to be reliable for their customers so their families are takin care of. Now i have heard stories where people get charged up the ying yang just for a peak and tune or it took a couple days to do. my rule is if i cant give you a peak and tune in 30 minutes dont trust me thats not including the wait time but my shop is a repair while you wait or you can send it in of course will take a couple days because our priority is the customer in the store but we get that sent in radio done in about 2 days. but if its a peak and tune that takes more than 30 minutes dont trust them. solder connections and p&t can take in hour. truly and honestly i hate when other technicians dont tell the truth and charge you an arm and a leg for something you dont need done because it is honestly hard for me to make a living when people cant even trust me.

So based on your comment here its ok that a well known shop can take a 400ish watts radio,do his tricks and get another 200 plus watts, post the vid of the bird watts and your not to question his work???
I dont know alot but i know a lil and when said video was posted i asked to see that vid with a scope, signal generator and such and the reply was no cause he was to busy to include that in his vid.....
So now the owner of said 600+ watt radio is gonna go out thinkin he got some stank on his hang low and walks n talks the dog all over,in reality all he is doin is fryin an egg with splatter power and channels 5-10-20 up and down the band from the one he is on...Not to mention the sound quality is all but gone..

    rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

One other thing is if you dont peak and tune your radio properly than i dont care where your swrs are either they are perfect flat lined or at 1.5 your not getting your maximum range because of peak and tune. You only can get that on your antenna setup your not changing anything in side the radio or on the radio.

Sure you can and i see you at my shop later to repair it the only radios out there that cant push raw power 150 to 300 watts are as follows: Galaxy; 98vhp, 94hp, 47hp,(if you can find one) 95t, connex; (if you can find one) 3600hp 4300x300hp, 4600tb, general lee A.P. hill 40, ranger; (if you can find one) rci 2970, (if you can find one) rci 6300f150, now these are listing of the mobile radios there will be more if you want to know about base units. But no a cobra 29 can not push over 40 watts the most seen one do is 40watts but no chance in hell will it go over 40 watts. Any body who says that they can get 60 watts out of that radio is lying on the meter they can show you it does 150 easily and i showed many guys where they can get tricked. So there in that case that nonsense. No your connex 3300hp 3400hp or galaxy 959 (which is a radio thats equivalent to cobra 148) 29, 33hp, 44hp, 66hp, 88hp, 99hp can only max out to 70 watts sure you can do more but if so i will be seeing you in my store and you will say my radio just started to smoke and finals regulators and drivers that begans to be a big problem and thats really expensive to repair. So your choice believe some one who wants you to get the best out of your radio or believe the people socking you bunch of money to say they did something but really was designed for you to come back to them to get it fix

Well let me ask you this. Can every fuel filter or air filter fit every car or vehicle including tractors and semis? Of course so everything has different components. And they works in different ways yea cobra 25s and 29 are from the same company but different components so not all has the same modulation circuit only same radios will no duh right?
