I've seen it around here and the union LTL boys don't like it one bit. It's overflow capacity, I was told. Not as common outside of holiday season.
And yes, Werner, Swift and friends do have pups. Hereabouts you'll see them heading into metro areas with assorted dollar store chain branding on the trailers. What continues to baffle me is that they are dragging a nice metro-friendly pup with a gigantic condo sleeper. Get some bleeping day cabs, people.Mike2633 Thanks this. -
Maybe it's the same thing as my old employer, FedEx Freight in Tacoma, does? They called it "purchased transport".
They use purchased transport because there is a greater amount of inbound freight than outbound, so this way they can eliminate a great deal if deadhead miles. (Funny thing is, though, back when we were Viking Freight, our line drivers ran deadhead miles all the time, and we still turned a profit.)Dave_in_AZ, passingthru69, speedyk and 1 other person Thank this. -
