I actually run as a company driver now. Lost my ride in 09 cause of the recession. The load i hauled in my profile pic banked me 950 bucks in 3 days. There's good money here but it's nasty work sometimes. If your really interested i could set you up.

I'm just looking for freedom. Running this way is hardly a life at all. I missed Thanksgiving, I'm going to be running through Christmas and New Years. I don't have a wife or any children at home but I still have my mother, my siblings, my friends, my grandparents, and other family members that I'd like to visit. Like I was going to visit my grandmother for Thanksgiving but after running 5 WEEKS STRAIGHT I got a mere 3 days off. Not enough to drive up from west Texas to North Carolina. I'd like to be able to go to a few Nascar races with my grandfather but Werner doesn't give me any time. I just want the freedom to say "No can't grab this load, I need the week off." Werner will either fire me or put me on the #### list with the dispatchers and I'll run 1500 miles a week.

College isn't for everyone, neither are desk jobs. I love to drive. College was alright but the idea of sitting around at a computer writing code all day is just, well simply put, He'll.

When you are a company driver all of your income, except that taken in taxes, is profit. Every mile you drive is profit. You have 1 or 2 goals, miles and get home. Go read the owner operator forum there is a lot more to owning or leasing a truck. Until you know what those other things are you are not even equipped to make a go of things. You volunteered to work for a low paying company, I know others warned you about making that decision, but you made it. NOW, you are trying to make another bad decision. Why not work for a better company and let them assume the financial risk of operating a truck. There is a world of difference between a bottom-feeder company and a retirement company.
At least you didn't post the typical "I've signed a non-revokable contract with ABC Trucking, are they a good company" which MOST newbies post. You need to learn, and you need to search for the answers, not wait for us to deliver all info to you, for the 1089th time this month. Learning the industry, or parts of the industry is a long process, take it in steps and get clarification along the way. No matter how many newbies want i to be true, we can't do it for you. Good luck in your search, make no changes until you are certain your change is the best option for you at this time, not just some shot in the dark.QuietStorm, Bigrayon, Redlegg and 2 others Thank this. -
