A simulator. Best known as an overly expensive insurance discount, and more government money for "workforce training."

I still don't quite get it. I'm gathering it's a video type game or something?

Last I heard Swift is self insured so I'm not sure where a discount would take place.

...And when you do the winter driving simulation DO NOT exceed 45 mph. The simulator will make you jackknife.

The simulator is where you sit in a regular driver's seat, with a steering wheel but no need for shifting. You essentially are driving an automatic, with surround sound and three large video screens giving you front and mirror views in a wrap around.

True story... I arrived for my winter simulation class with one other classmate. The safety guy starts out by asking what "SWIFT" stands for.

Crickets from my classmate. I KNOW they use it for an acronym having to do with safety, but blurt out, "So Will Insurance Fix This???"

    Crickets from Mr. Safety.

"Uh, no... there's a DIFFERENT meaning to Swift..."

It's got 3 giant screens. Has all the peddles, switches even has an air ride seat and actual shifter. And then yes, pretty much a video game.

The guy running the sim can take control of other vehicles with a small steering wheel, and change the weather to his whims.

They are self insured, but it makes em eligable for workforce training grants. Any other company not self insured could get a discount for it. I know I've heard of a few carriers with the things.

    MJ1657 and Lepton1 Thank this.

Why anyone would put up with this is beyond me.

If you spent time at a Swift terminal and saw how many drivers had large high def flat screen monitors playing video games (taking advantage of free Wi-Fi) you would understand COMPLETELY.

    FerrissWheel Thanks this.

In my neck of the woods, doing 45 in the winter would get you ran the hell over. Wouldnt have to worry bout a jackknife. Lol. Thats sad they teach guys WINTER driving on a dam tv monitor.

First time, curiosity. The other 3 because I had time to kill and listening to the same tired crap from a new group of faces wasnt amusing.

It's not the most annoying thing they've ever done, afterall. But my only complaints come from when I was still in reefer. The same problems don't exist in the flat side as far as I've gathered. Right now it's serving it's purpose. My mangment solves what problems I have, they stay outta the way and throw loads at me. I'm getting .49cpm after bonus.

I have an endgame granted, probably fallish. But really I just don't have any complaints.

They don't teach a thing about winter driving. Most they teach about winter driving is how to put chains on a tire that's not even on the ground.

Only mentors teach winter driving, and that's only those of us who have been in it. And that's only those of us who don't shut down at the sight of a snowflake.
