9 to 13 conversion. Many now days are just a knob and a couple of air lines hooked up. But, their are also 9s that required the whole back have of the tranny to be changed and the drive shaft shortened. Those kits and transmissions are sold as well but the conversion is not cheap. Then their are 9s that cannot be converted. You got to check the transmission tag before you make the assumption you can cheaply convert your 9-13.

Not buys, leases. Since the manufacture owns or gets back the trucks that Swift leases, they often put in 13 speeds (cheaply convertible 9s). 13speeds sell much better on the used truck lot.

Swift doesn't care how much time a driver wastes pulling a load, so they often have only 9 gears available. This keeps the split shift synchronizer fresh in the 13 speed, since it is never used by a Swift driver. And, after Swift is done with it, the manufacture can collect the truck back and sell it quicker with 13speed.

I don't know who is right or wrong; it doesn't matter.

In todays current 13 speed. Direct is in a gear down, high range position. I am not counting gears because everybody counts different. That is shifter towards the dash, spliter is in high.

    Gear ratios from top down are .73 - .86 - 1.0 - 1.17....

In years past any of the top four gears could be the direct (got to check trans model for specifics) but it hasn't been that way in a while.

My bad. I was thinking of the old days when it was 9513. Weren't those single od? And my other bad was I thought the question was which is considered direct and which is od, button forward or back.

The question is is direct a true direct, or does it just work out the tail shaft is spinning at the same speed as the input, but it goes through under and over to get there.

In a true direct, a collar locks the input shaft to the outruth, and torque doesn't go through any gear.

I can pull 95,000 up a hill with a 470hp C-13 with a 13-speed. Either you aren't using the torque right, or something is wrong with your motor.
