What I don't understand is why any cdl holder is making a big deal about Oregon and a seat belt law.

The FMCSA has in it a requirement that dates back into the 70's that cdl drivers are required to use seat belts.

Where did you you get me saying anything about IQ????????? perhaps a little reading comprehension issue i guess... The fact I was making was, beliefs are skewed by living in Oregon... Beliefs has nothing to do with IQ... Suggesting somebody who does not wear their seat belt is also more likely to comet other crimes, that is ignorant.. I guess you skipped right over that part in your response..

Have you seen people burn alive in a vehicle because they was trapped by their seat belt? have you seen people decapitated because they was wearing their seat belt? Many can go for wearing it and not wearing it... Should be a personal choice not a LAW..... Education can get the same results in having people wear their seat belt without making it a LAW... Its only a law because it 1 makes revenue and 2 gives a cop another probable cause to pull you over...

Several, how and why? I used to work for Zionsville street dept. and the guys all were long time volunteer fire fighters. The entire town at the time was still a volunteer fire station.. Anyways they used to go to scenes all the time and I would ride along. Ya I have seen a lot, brains, dead baby, objects stuck into people ext.. I still believe the same results can be achieved threw education without making it a LAW...

While I don't deny your right to choice I am wondering if you could provide some supporting links regarding the percentage of people that were burned alive or decapitated (or any deaths attributable to wearing a seatbelt for that matter) because they were wearing a seatbelt vs. the total number of accidents? I would suggest that any information you could find would show that the chance of that happening is so infinitesimally small as to make it a non-issue. While seatbelts may not be the "perfect" solution (stay home), they are a #### good one.

Even if it weren't law, I would continue to wear mine for the simple reason that they work ... in fact, I am living proof.

I just wondered. I have been to hundreds. I have seen MANY cases where if they had wore a seatbelt, I would not be moving a dead body or a person that was extremely badly hurt.

By the same token, I have seen accidents, that if they had wore the seat belt, they may have died. These are very few over all.

In the whole mix, I would have to say that wearing seat belts have saved lives. As far as a law, I was against it at first. However, one accident I had was once when I was not wearing the seat belt for some reason prior to the law. We struck a vehicle at 55 mph who pulled out of a farm field in front of us. My wife had hers on, mine was off. I hit the windshield with my head and it almost broke my neck.

So, I guess you could say I am biased.

Don't get me wrong.. seatbelt has saved my life as well.. doing about 65 in the country in the dead mans seat (for those who don't know what that mean, its the front passengers seat) and a car backed out in front of us.. pretty much T boned the car and only had time to break maybe 25 feet.. It was a camaro and the front left was poking threw the passenger windshield.. my side.... I had just put my seatbelt on maybe 10-15 seconds before that.. So, I totally agree with seatbelts can save lives... I am against comments like "people who don't wear their seat belt are more likely to commit other crimes"... And I am against LAWS like this.. I believe education is the answer not LAWS....

I mean really if they wanted seatbelts to make a serious impact in saving lives then car manufacturers should be required to make cars not be able to be started unless you have a seatbelt clicked... if you have a medical reason then you should be able to take it to a dealer to have this device deactivated.. Anyways education is the answer not making law after law after law...

Still as I posted, it is not just a law that is the issue. It has been part of the FMCSA for years prior to all of the seat belt laws. It is a regulation just as logs are.
