Is there a scientific chart showing how much fuel you save by going slower?

CRE when I went to school there in '05 said it was .5 / mpg for every 5 mph you increase over 65 and at 65 you should get 6/mpg with the Century at that time.
I took to two loads in two different Cascadia's recently from Phoenix to Albuquerque hammer down 72 to 75 all the way and got 6.5 / loads were 78K gross.
I'm certain if I ran in the mid to low 60's MPG would be 7 or better. That's where I typically drove my own Cascadia and got 7.2 average. This is with very little idle time.
There is driving savvy that effects your MPG.
You have to know how to run the roller coaster highways.
Inertia is your friend & the cruise control can be the enemy.
Our O/O's trucks are not governed, some of the company trucks aren't either. But if you start running above 72 consistently, especially in the summer, you are literally peeling the rubber off of your drive tires.
We had one guy that had to put a self imposed govern on his truck at 72, because he was going through a set of drives every 16 months lol.
I always looked at it this way. You get 6 mpg x 1000 gallons that's 6000 miles. You get 7 mpg that's 7000 miles.
That's a free 1000 mile trip for the same fuel cost.
The forces exerted on your truck don't increase 5% with 5% more speed either, they increase 5 TIMES the amount.TallJoe Thanks this. -
When did he say he drives 62 but logs 66? tes your right there are time I run speed limited or slightly above it but 3/4 of time I like to go 2 or 3 under it less stressful pretty much only have to pass prime trucks and swift

I'm with you re: the savings....but the second part of OP's question was that He gets "there" faster, and snags the second load, which allows him to make even more $$.
Since I'm not qualified to answer that (I dont have a truck yet)...maybe you could.OOwannaBE Thanks this. -
I don't have too many "get there faster" situations, but I can also say that it is much more fun running 75-80 mph vs 55-60mph.
OOwannaBE and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
I do have a few situations where faster makes more money, but I'm not OTR but more regional. But I also run overweight etc

I think it's to each his own.
The company I work for is big boy trucking. The owner will run you until you scream for mercy if that is your twist, and can easily obtain the freight to do it. Many of the loads are booked at 62 travel time. The guys a mad scientist. We have customers where you unload at door 1, reload at doors 15 to 18, ZOOM back down the highway. Never longer than a few hours between reloads, and all drop and hook here in town.
I also pass the same, especially Prime, drivers over again, after stopping for my 30 or fuel.
When I go out OTR I run hard, but I need a day a week or close to, to rest and recharge. I can't speak for anyone else. -
As a business owner I have to lean and maximize profit. Not been getting rich , making it. Been with the same gal for 23 years. Kids are almost gone.
You don't think these bigger companies are maximizing profits. ($50,000 mile oil changes)
My book is totally legal, haven't had a book violation 15-18 years.
I have never seen an e-log and don't want to, I don't need one.
I deliver and load minimum 5 loads a week.
Thanks to you all that understand what I'm saying. Appreciate you and will never bright ya back over at night, but flash or block the fuel island, and impede your day.nax Thanks this.
