No....Even a Fair Price I Don't,Because that "Fair" Price should be standard And The Mechanic's wage is a competitive wage at Most Shops.

I DO Tip Truck Washes....Truck Shower attendants..And Of Course Waitresses/waiters....
They Are Tipped Well Because Their Salaries are dependent on it

You've just gotta be kidding, right? I mean these folks are not minimum wage people. They don't have to depend on tips to survive, as do restaurant servers.
I can see thanking them. I can see writing a letter of appreciation to their employer if they have really given you outstanding service.
If they are your regular mechanic, I can see giving them a bottle of their favorite booze once in a while, particularly at Christmas.

I pay over a $110 an hour for shop service when I book it. No tips. Those guys wrenching make over $20 an hour plus health and dental bennies for their family.

I pay for that. Why the #### would I tip it? I tip restaurant servers who provide seamless service without me questioning where they are or why my drink is dry. They make a $1.50 an hour plus tips with no bennies. If service sucks my tips reflect it. If not the tip is awesome sometimes 30% or more.

Now why in the world would I tip someone who makes solid hourly wages plus bennies? That is nuts. If you are paying $60 or $70 an hour and getting subpar mechanic work maybe a tip might motivate?

I dunno I never cared for cut throat/rate carriers nor cut throat shops that don't stand behind their work either. With the shop I use they eliminate problems the first time and I have never had to test if they stand behind their work yet.

Truck washes.....lol. I've been to very few recently where they shouldn't be giving me some of my money back when they are done.

I have occasionally slipped a $20 to a mechanic that did me a solid off the books, quick adjustment or check of something.

Sure do! I show em the tip of my middle finger after I go storming out of the shop.
Thanks! Best laugh I had all day.

I've never known any mechanics to get anything done in a timely manner.

Well I for one do not expect, nor do I want tips. A positive phone call to my service manager goes a lot farther than being slipped a twenty every now and then.

OOOO, this one hits a nerve. No I don't. Nobody ever tipped me when I did a good job at driving. Matter of fact, I don't believe in tipping at all. That's the job, that's the pay you get for said job, not a little extra for doing a good job. Shouldn't you do a good job anyway? What, do I get a tip if they do a bad job? I agree with NM, a call to a superior goes a lot farther. Case in point, once, a delivery man from a health care supplier, came to my parents house. It required moving my bedridden father, so he could put this air mattress down, well, me and my mom couldn't hold the old man , so I asked this guy if he'd help. He said, due to liability , he couldn't. I said, look pal, we're gonna drop the old man, please, and he did help. So I called his company, asked for the manager, and told him of this young man that helped us. At 1st, the manager didn't know what to say, he was sure this a complaint, but I assured him, this kid went up and above. The manager thanked me. I always wonder if that kid got in trouble for that.
Sorry, times are tough, no tips. Like George,
