also try to negotiate this on first court, where they usually don't call officer to come. because if they call officer and if he shows up (odds are he won't, but you never know) there is big chance that he will get angry and present evidence that you were going at 52 so conviction will be more painful. But try it first, go to court and speak with prosecutor

I agree with Grumppy, maybe because its Christmas, maybe because I am just trying to be good-hearted but to just take the hit because you were really speeding is not enough reason to have a mark against your record, higher insurance premiums, possibly becoming un-hireable with some trucking companies, etc.
Those of you who told him to "man up". Yeah, that really helps him. I'm sure if you were in that situation, you would not like getting kicked while you were down. I cannot have much respect for those of you who could not offer some constructive advice.
Thank you nevertheless for YOUR posting as I will make sure I won't seek any advice from you in the future.
We have plenty enough enemies out here as drivers just trying to make a living.

    Terry270 Thanks this.

Good deal, if you are gonna break the law, you don't want my advice. So go ahead and block me from seeing your f ups. :D

I'm confused. You say you have no excuse yet you say you were ticketed for speeding in a school zone when you weren't in a school zone. Sounds like a good excuse.

Whatever the truth though I'd think it's worth fighting.

Guess you have never caught yourself going faster than you meant to? Hit the brakes instead of the throttle and slightly ran a red light? You are effed in the head if you think he should not at least try to talk to DA or judge and pay a higher fine in exchange for a non moving violation. After all he is out here working and trying to be a contributing member of society right? Or does he deserve to potentially lose his current or future job over this? I bet you were that annoying kid who was always running to the teacher or parents ratting other people out

If more people stood up against drivers breaking the law..... five children could have spent the holidays with their family instead of in the ground because of a school bus driver.
    God rest their souls.

But the consensus of this thread says everybody deserves a break.

You are #### right ive f'd up. More times than i can count on all my digits. The difference is i didnt post it to the internet.
So give me a break terry, everyone deserves a break. Remember? Or is it a pick and choose who deserves what kinda thing?

You know what the OP and that POS school bus driver don't have in common? The OP has years under his belt operating a cmv with zero violations (according to him anyway). If that's true then hell yeah he is an example of someone who deserves a break in the form a higher fine but gets to keep his record clean.

As far as you deserving a break too, I would say yes of course as long as you learn from the mistake. I'd say any of us who can go at least a few years in between minor violations deserves to keep our jobs or not have our insurance double.

I agree with you. I wasnt asking for a break for my f ups. They've cost me nothing more than time and im the only one that knows about 99% of them.
I was being a smartarse asking for a break about my posts to this thread.

On the contrary i have never received a violation or speeding ticket or had to fight to keep my job. So i do not know what that would feel like and hope i never do. But who knows? One day i may have a ticket because i wasnt paying attention and it may be serious enough that i may have to fight for my job.

Until then, best wishes to the op, and i hope for everyones sake you do learn your lesson. Best wishes to you all.

Seems the officer gave you a break with the reduced speed ticket. Do as others have said. Speak to the DA's office. They are the people to negotiate with, They are the people that prosecute you.

My local cop gets paid to show up in court and the municipality would rather accept a negotiated settlement than pursue a court judgement. The municipality gets more money from the ticket without the courts involvement. Check to see if you can take the traffic school.

I would think nobody condones this rate of speed in or near a school zone. Your rate of acceleration was pretty high. Couple blocks in the city streets from a stop sign to 52, that really is inattentive driving. IF that is what happened.

    Good luck.
