Hahaha, that's awesome buddy, keeping your eyes open for an A model...I'm looking at turn-key 359's too BTW, lol.

I know the game that these towing companies play, believe me. They purchase all these brand new heavy spec 4 axle daycabs in expectation of doing all of the heavy hauling in the area, and then resort to going around slashing rates on general freight to keep a driver busy. They have a couple of $100,000.00+ 3 axle detachable RGN's sitting there in the yard doing nothing too, which is a good sight because they'd probably end up damaging equipment or the driver they hired to haul it would end up not chaining it right and have it fall off anyways, judging by my recent experience.

They do a bunch of flatbed work I see, a truss manufacturer in their area. They have to be related or high school buddies to even get near that kind of work. Probably cut the rate to the point nobody in their right mind would do it anymore I'm sure.

A little update about that $15,400.00 tow bill they gave my insurance company last Friday; They settled for $4,500.00, LOL. So that's the game. Inflate the bills three times the actual cost, settle on 1/3rd. It was still double what a normal tow company would have charged for the same work, minus the damage inflicted. At $2,500.00, I would have said, Ouch...but that's what it is. Still feel it's double what they deserved. They billed for 5 support vehicles, hazwoper teams, cleanups, you name it, they threw it in there. Absolute ruthless thieves. Then some 24 year old girl sitting behind a desk in Wisconsin at the insurance claims office just accepts it all as a normal cost of doing business...Until I screamed foul.

But they are all playing the same game, these "pro's" in the towing business. I know of another one up by me that just purchased a couple brand new trucks and a Landoll, almost 3/4 of a million dollars worth of equipment in anticipation of hauling equipment. There's more cows in this state than people, not exactly a beehive of activity here in the Green Mountain state, so what's the alternative to having the equipment sit idle? Go to the equipment dealers (Cat, Deere, etc.,) and start slashing rates. But if you call them directly to have something hauled, be prepared to pay $150.00/hr for them. I wish I could charge $150.00/hr....but thanks to those types who know nothing about transport rates or the business itself, I have to lower my standards just to compete. Nice eh? Maybe we should start buying wreckers and slashing their rates? What a concept...After all, it's just a truck with a boom on the back, how hard can it be to use one???Just ask the numbskull that towed mine a couple weeks ago.

I went through the painstaking process of setting up to haul for Milton Cat this summer. 13 locations throughout the northeast. Increased cargo insurance, liability, and 2 months of waiting thinking this would be a good thing; summer work. Not so much. They called daily wanting "quotes" to move machines here and there. I never got a single job, and was constantly told "I was too high, but we'll keep trying." I finally got wise and when they called one time, I gave them a ridiculously low rate, so low that I would have had to be deceitful and if they accepted it, and I would have had to come down with some rare tropical disease that day so I couldn't perform the task. It was still "too high". That did it...I was all done playing phone quote with them. I politely told them to remove my name off of their list of "preferred carriers"...there were emotions on the other end like they were offended, lol. It's all brokered now (the Caterpillar work,) so it's a third party doing this.
    I'll pass, thank you.

Funny you mention tow companies not hauling equipment properly. Last rental shop I worked for used a tow company to haul all the machines. Most were idiots. Chaining around the chrome cylinder rods and damaging equipment while loading. One guy even drove off with not 1 chain on a giant man lift since it was just going up the road a bit.

That's what the customer gets when they resort to these low-ball prices from tow monkeys. They get what they deserve in the end too.

I've heard some real shady things when it comes to haulin for Milton. (At least in Clifton Park, NY)Like what they told you they require, certain others fly without said proper paperwork. It's more a who you know kind of deal there. A joke really, keeping certain individuals like yourself at an arms reach for when their number 1 can't produce. Rediculous

It is a joke, and they deserve what they get with those tow companies...kids chaining over top of cylinders, etc.
Shame of it is, it'd make a guy like me a really neat little gig in the summer if they played nicely.

It can be pretty tough to find a customer(s) that appreciate what you bring to the table.

What's the latest, have you found a replacement unit? What has the insurance company come up with, are they dragging their feet?

As of now Ruthless, they did total it. I got that much out of them Wednesday afternoon. Then I called the adjuster in charge that would reveal the settlement number, but I got an automated voicemail saying they'd be back on January such and such a day...so I'm still in suspense. Tough week to be productive with the New Years/vacation time being used up by the cubicle dwellers.

Haven't actually gotten too serious on locking my sites in on another truck yet, until I know what I have coming from the wreck. I have an A model and a 359 both in the cross hairs, but can't talk turkey until I count my dough. Meanwhile, I meditate, practice yoga and learn the true meaning of "patience is virtue"...I'd like to slap the stupid out of the one that coined that phrase. I'm OUT of patience and almost out of $$$ too due to their sluggishness. But it doesn't matter one ioda to anyone but me.

Latest tidbit I found was the at-fault driver of the beemer now has twisted the story and told his insurance company that I clipped his rear end causing him to lose control, and he has witnesses. Funny, when my TWO witnesses were there as he was standing upright next to his smashed to # # # # 2017 M-3, tending to his bleeding passenger that he almost killed after deflecting backwards off the guard rails into my path, his witnesses weren't exactly right there at the party with all of us. And I also ask why 5 days later when my lawyer called his insurance company to get some information, that they knew NOTHING about the wreck until my lawyer told them? It's the common game they play when they are guilty I'm told. The truth shall prevail in the end.

Sorry to hear your going through all this dilemma W900. Do you think you will invest in a dash cam in your next truck purchase because of what this nitwit is trying against you now? You see more discussions on here talking about them and I'm seriously thinking about purchasing one. You hope to god nothing ever happens again but seems like no matter how careful you are something can still happen out of your control.

Hope everything goes well for you through the rest of this ordeal.

Your right about none if the other parties involved care about your time/money lost. It's not their bacon frying.
Good luck in the new year.
