what is the best flatbed company to start out with, and why? Im not new to driving, just new to flatbed. Been a mover for the last 8 years. Looking to take a break, and want to give flatbed a try. Right now I have offers from both Melton and Hornaday, any insight on to which one would be better? Hornaday offered more money, but less average miles than Melton. biggest difference is home time. Hornaday Id be home every weekend where I live.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

While I have never driven for either, I would go to Melton, based mainly how I've heard shippers talk about Hornaday

If you are not starting, you shouldn't go to a starter company.

    "But Six, I need training."

You need a demonstration on securement and tarping. You're a bed bugger...you have an edge over the crowd. Next time you're in a full service truckstop, find a flatbedder with a load on his wagon and ask him about his securement.

@Chewy352, can you give Mr2007 a link to that securement book you had? Mr @Lepton1, can you 'mentor' one more?

Mr2007, look through the picture thread and look through the flatbedding tips thread. And write this down: Securement should stop any forward, backwards, side to side and up and down movement. There are 2 kinds of securement 1.Indirect Securement 2. Direct Securement.

The guys in this forum can get you through just about anything that you can load on an open deck trailer. How adventurous are you? I believe that with a little help, you will be able to pass any securement test that any starter company could throw at you after riding with one of their trainers.

    Think about it.

You'll be right at home in flatbedding. I was a bedbugger in high school. Here's a great load for us. 20160927_174243.jpg 20160927_174303.jpg
