Appreciate the replies, you make some good points.

However, yes CANA was the general contractor on the Petro Canada tower, BUT their mandate was to use as few Alberta trades/contractors and labour as possible. My Dad was hauling fuel to the project, my family were carpenters and ironworkers trying to get on the project. Some did, but were replaced with Foreigners, and passed their replacements in the staging yard.

NEP was a malicious attack on Alberta, that's why everyone has a problem with it. Alberta can survive recessions and oil gluts on its own. But things like NEP and Carbon Tax make it unsustainable to continue forward. Before I was laid off, I was an operations manager for an Oil and Gas service company. One of my last projects, was the 5 year contingency plan. We had Cash, Funding, Investment and Scaled our Operation to remain in business/profitable with only 10% layoffs (mostly dickheads we had to hire, like you said, because of "virtually no unemployment in Alberta" during the good times.) But after the property tax increases, threat of carbon tax, other misc new taxes, we did 90% layoffs and the business is surviving in pretty much name only.

Another thing, I might have had to hire some Canadian dickheads I was glad to get rid of. But I NEVER had to resort to a LMO or TFW; NEVER! It was more work to find someone, and maybe they weren't the best, but with some EFFORT; lots of those guys became great employees and good friends.

A low Canadian dollar is good for some, but bad for most. Even with a par dollar, we couldn't keep our products on the shelf, as US companies snapped them up like hot cakes. Quality made equipment, from a company that has national pride, will always trump cheaply made TFW supported junk.

I believe, if we put 1/2 as much effort into helping Canadians relocate and find work, as we did the TFW/Refugee/Express Entry Immigration programs; then things would be a lot different.

That is a good point. Operating the TFW Program (and the TFW programs with other names) involves large expenditures of taxpayers money that most people are probably not aware of.

The economy changes so fast nowadays. Seems like you've got to be willing to be mobile and chase the work if you want to live well.

Or if you want to live at all, Justin Trudeau/The Liberals call it "Precarious work" (is non-standard employment that is poorly paid, insecure, unprotected, requires mobility and cannot support a household.) and we better get used to it.

Or you can just move to Australia or the US, where there is still some common sense left.

What do you expect? They've ran the wages/rates into the ground and have no respect for anyone on the road.

They are parasites who have ruined trucking in Canada.

Stacks, if there was any doubt you are simply trolling, you have removed all that doubt by attempting to derail this discussion with groundless accusations of racism.

Problem is that we don't have a shortage of drivers, just a shortage of decent paying driving jobs.

I recall at the Alberta Trucking association annual meeting in Banff when ###**le Ed Bradley was the guest speaker. His opening remark was that we had a shortage of 52,000 truck drivers in Canada and what should we do??? I raised my hand and stood up and responded that if the wages were increase we could hire from the 110,000 Class 1 drivers that the federal Government had published that they no longer drove for a living as "it wasn't worth it".
