Something to consider, about fifteen years ago everyone and their brother ran out and got step decks. The market was so saturated with them that it is no longer considered specialized equipment, therefore it no longer pays specialized equipment rates. You shouldn't expect much more that what a flat makes.

My 5 year plan is to have 100,000 trucks and to be married to 3 playboy bunnies.

    2015-$159,910 gross-total miles 57,736-$2.77 gross
    2016-$168,823 gross-total miles 53,849-$3.14 gross

Picked up a new customer in Phx this year, so hauling furniture to the LA area helped with the bigger gross this year. Copy machines have stabilized back to the '13 volume bc of more competition in the LA & Phx area.

I overbooked myself more than a few times this year, even had my neighbor pull one of my other trailers for a really big load one week.

It was a good year except for the high maint. bills, 6 new injectors, new trans w/ clutch assy, new starter, 4 new batteries, new Davco fuel assy, and a bunch of little stuff-but now it'll be good for another 17 years! lol

Those are really crappy numbers, you should be doing super trucker miles, at least 125k if not 150k per year, that's what really matters ... MILES!!

    I dont see crappy numbers....

I see steady, controlled growth...more strategic growth via smarter revenues for less miles

Miles dont always translate to more $$...but rather more cost...leading to less profitability due to increased maintenance costs (ask those driving for $1.1/mile)

    Year-------Gross------------Miles------CPM---------Miles/Month
    2011------$102,248------43,310----$2.36-------3,609
    2012------$108,778------41,534----$2.62-------3,461
    2013------$130,941------49,693----$2.64-------4,141
    2014------$175,997------61,799----$2.85-------5,150
    2015------$159,910------57,736----$2.77-------4,811
    2016------$168,823------53,849----$3.14-------4,487

Hes being sarcastic, but this whole run smart not hard attitude only gets you so far. At those numbers hes only netting 40-70k a year. Granted he's probably only really working 2 full weeks a month, but for those of us who are more ambitious you need to get CONTRACTS or DIRECT contacts that will let you work hard and smart.

    That's right, I am.

My trucks don't do much more than that (80k average), but they make great money compared to some who can't get through their thick head that there are rates above $1.75 a mile. I can NOT see how someone working for some of these companies can accept $1.25 or $1.50 mile, just can't.
