Thats all that I have seen doing it.

I did a load of crane pads from Ky to Wi once. I loaded with a guy running a B train going to the same place as me. I ended up 400lbs over gross,.. took the scenic route till I could get my fuel low enough to where I felt comfortable. The guy in the B train was loaded with twice what I was carrying. He had to be grossing between 110 - 120k easily. My hat was off to him.

I should clarify a little bit.

As of 2014 Maryland allows 88000 on 5 axles for purposes of hauling raw milk to dairy.

Here is the screen shot directly from it's Booklet related to weights and vehicle lengths.

The booklet can be found in PDF form for your perusal at http://www.sha.maryland.gov/OOTS/motorcarrierhandbook.pdf

Picking the highest weight you listed.... 130k in MT. What do they allow per axle? And... These are state roads, right? Interstates are 80k? Or is this interstates too?

I don't want to get into the weight tables for interstates. The most extreme examples here where I am is several times a week a 150 ton transformer travels by on something like 33 axles. I cannot weigh or count that high on ten toes and fingers. Yet. Im learning.

My issue was supposed to be simple. In my mind throw a triple axle under there and load it go. But learned just now that the triple is a exercise in futility. IT defeats the purpose. There apparently is a difference between Canada and the United States in weights. Ive led to wonder now what Canada must have thought of me and my American 80000 pound truck at the Windsor East scales on the Queen's highway going to Toronto? Did they care? Of course.

This is turning into a can of worms. I might learn something today but am trying to keep it simple sticking with milk trucks which happens to be what I used to run a long time ago and never really lost touch with.

Ohio allows farm commodities loaded at the farm to be 7% over as well, and I can permit 120,000 on a 5 axle combo too but that's not what we're talking about so it's irrelevant. We were talking about the extra weight and cost of a tri vs a spread and being as versatile as possible. The OP wants to run the Midwest, southern Midwest and the east. The amount of milk you can load in Maryland isn't going to help him at a scalehouse in Illinois. If I remember when @oldiron bought his it was for Canada's axle laws for spreads not to haul more in the states.

Grab me a picture of one of those 33 axle setups next time you see one.

As I said milk trucks (which I ran for years part time) are irrelevant we're talking pulling a variety of freight on a step deck with 80,000 being the limit.

I'll accept the irrelevancy but Im fixing to break out the interstate weight charts for further debate with you after lunch.

You can run the interstate in every one of those states.

It will be a while you posted some more information as well. I'll have to disgest it a bit.

I understand the topic wants to solve the problem triaxle or not. I still lean towards a triaxle for a stepdeck or similar type of trailer. I also understand that a triaxle will not work in a reefer because the extra axle and associated hardware is already taking away from being loading payload into a trailer.
