As always the right thing is to communicate with the owner.... If it takes a couple days to fix, see if he has a problem with you taking a bit of unscheduled home time. He likely will love that as he will not have to pay for a hotel then. Once fixed have wife take you back to the truck and do whatever needed (deliver late, go get another load, etc...) Write it off as a bad week, and go from there. Now if you have several bad weeks in a row, yea turn the truck back in.

Too many produce or refrigerated docks I've seen don't offer sufficient room for a tow truck to navigate a towed rig into a dock.

Would have to be one hell of an operator to perform such a maneuver, regardless.

We have no info on that. Heck, for all we know he could have just picked up 5 miles away and delivering to Chicago. Either way he owner knows what will cost him more, getting the load delivered, or delivering late.

This is one of those times where you as a driver gets frustrated. 2 hours from the house and your sitting on the side of the road, not earning. First thought automatically is what? Pack up my gear and head to the house.

Did you read Mr @Ridgeline's post? His first thought is on the freight, the business. If YOU owned the business, would you go home?

"Of course not, Six...can't leave my truck and my customer's freight."

    You mean ABANDON it?

When driving, even as a company driver, your mind should always be in growing the business. You are the company's representative after all. If I am driving for a company, I have an investment in that company. Doesn't matter who owns the truck.

Probably money. It's what 1000 dollars an hour or something? I don't know how much it costs to have heavy wreckers work. Or how much it takes to feed those big dogs.

Im hoping the OP has since moved from quitting, being fired or otherwise plotting revenge for driving a million 2 truck. I drove a few in my time and frankly my hats off to the OP for lasting this long this morning.

And when a company pays me net for a trip loaded the moment I connect to the trailer, I can then send money to the wife for the billing at home without stress. It's after all a business.

Now there are hundreds of my posts all over TTR that proclaim that I do not run as a business. I indulge too much. And that cost many people including myself good money over the years. No regrets.

When you are older like me doing business is much easier and more focused.

THAT would be something I wish to try once before I die. A nice big fat rotator hooked to a B train of vans backed into two docks in maybe one hour. And maybe 5 pullups.

And then I have my attorney send an email to DOT &/or the bad company ready to completely destroy little parasite company that dared hurt me. People are really baaad (or at least I am) when it comes to striking back via lawful means (with) such as DOT rules & regs.

In case you didnt see my post in post 11, I cited 2 regs that prevent a company from retaliating &/or firing a driver for refusing to drive equipment that violates FMCSA reg.

Thank you for the reminder. Im happy there are laws in place (Or are they working papers not yet law?) I hope those are new laws in place.

In my time you dragged the boss around back first blood wins. Either that or you got yourself tossed properly with no recourse beause.. no harm no foul. Who you gonna call? Not the Law.
