20170102_150231.jpg Just goofing off today. No one is open around here to get parts. Pulled the piston and liner, found a nick on the piston. So I'm just going to go for a liner pack instead of liner and re-ringing the piston.

T-1 only gets bought on an as needed basis. I've got a piece I ordered a couple years ago for deck shims. There was a change in thickness, so now I have a very expensive dust collector.

On the account, on account of I don't have that kind of money!
I'm lucky to have a couple of big steel warehouses close. The one I have had an account with for 20+ years will CNC cut for cheap when I give them the CAD files I do, which is nice.

Lately only when someone else is paying for it

I don't see a nick in that piston? Any idea what caused it?
From what I can see, the cross hatching on that liner looks pretty good! So do the bearings...
BTW, did you pop the head to check the pistons, or did you boroscope it first?

    Oxbow and Superhauler Thank this.

@heavy HammerBad valve guides. A valve rubbed the liner. And nicked the piston. You can't see the nick in the pic. I didn't realize I posted in this thread until after. Sorry bout that. Lucky I didn't eat a valve! I have had issues with it loading up with oil at idle from day one of overhaul, had it narrowed down to valve guide or oil ring. In the other thread I posted a pic of the rubbed spot in liner I found when I pulled the head.

LOL I have a few things that were made from T1 that A36 would have been over kill on as well! The part that really makes it bad, is when you use that piece of T1 or AR400, or whatever... for something else, and then the job comes up that you could have used it for, and there would have been more than plenty, but instead, now you have to buy a new sheet (or sheets). I recently did that with some 3/8" AR400...

I don't buy much T1, but because of the quantity of other steel I buy, my prices are pretty good. My steel place isn't open today to check, but... Looking at another local steel supplier, their online price (off the street), for a piece of T1, 1/2 x 4 x 8 is $690.00. My prices are usually around 50-60 % of that for normal stuff.... T1 isn't exactly your normal every day steel, so I would guess my price would be somewhere around 75%... but that's just guessing.
