what to do in a tornado situation

Never seen one myself being from the east but I found @STexan 's thread from a while back to be quite informative. Give it a read.

Look for a low spot next to the road. A lot of highways have ditches next to them leftover from when the dirt was scooped out to build the road. Better than staying in the truck.

 

A truck stop will not save you from a determined tornado.

 

Tornadoes are acts of God. So pray. Then take shelter. Bridges are a good place to get under. If the tornado is going to hit the truck, don't be in it. Be in a ditch or culvert.

I do agree whole heartedly not to be in the truck if you're in eminent danger.

 

Tornados are rare, you'll never be in one, the odds are better that you'll get struck by lightning and win the Powerball the same week.
I live in Indiana and when they blow the tornado sirens nobody cares

 

I've been in six Tornadoes since I was a kid, and 7 straight line winds (microbursts).

They may be rare where you're from man.

The advice that I was given as a child was to find a low place, or underground if possible. If you're caught out in the open with no options you have no options, I'd personally stay in the truck (you'll fly a lot further out of the truck than in it.) Get as low as you can in the cab and cover your head (don't do this one the roadway, cause I'd bet my testicles someone will be stupid enough to still be doing 90 on whatever stretch of road you're on. Tweeting about the tornado).

 

How about parking under a freeway overpass?
