I lost 3 lugnuts after getting a trailer tire replaced at a Petro. Company mechanic said they were likely over-tightened. They weren't loose when I checked them with my hand that morning (or if they were loose, I wasn't able to turn by hand.) Glad that corporate is doing something about this (apparently) common problem at their shops.

No...Ive Yet to to see any driver throw a Torque Wrench on 18 wheels before they roll ( including myself) sh## no time they want you to roll where theres no time to even take a leak.,or risk being late.Thats weird you say this...because i seen 2 wheels and tires on 18 hwy off of I90 today.
-
I knoww I'm not taking my 500$ torque wrench on the road with me. specially not when I already need to calibrate it yearly at 100$ a pop. all the vibration will throw its calibration off in about a week. once it's off calibration, it's no better then a big 1/2 inch ratchet.
-
I doubt that little bit of vibration will hurt the calibration. Mine's be in my service truck for the last 4 years and its still fine. Bush roads, mines you name it.
-
You would be suprised. mines one of the most accurate ones on the market. It's the knee in use in nuclear power plants due to its acurecy. I dropped mine on the floor and had to recalibrate, the paperwork I had on it showed I was 73% worse then factory fresh...

Mine's a Mac. I keep it in its case and tucked away tight in one of my tool cabinets.
BUMBACLADWAR Thanks this. -
I check, it's part of your pretrip and it's not like it takes that much extra effort.
The only time I've ever found a loose nut was picking a brand new kenworth up at the Portland factory(I think) and both steer tires had 4 loose nuts on exactly the same pattern. -
Never been a fan of mac. just always had better luck with snap on stuff

Snap on never shows up often here and he does not give anyone a deal. Mac is conveinient since they have a store 10 minutes from our shop. I don't know what happened to the Matco guy though. Haven't seen him in close to a year. He was the best dealer in town IMO.
-
Yea you gotta find the right snap on guy. a lot of them have a bug up their ###
