I was visiting my mother on Cape Cod. They have a railroad that is a nostalgic one. It had an F series locomotive. They sure better looking than the locomotives that Amtrak and some intercity railroads use.

    They look European!

OK, that's better, but even then it's not a good layout. This Dramis D55T has a much better layout.

there is much more about them, statics is one thing, dynamics other but driving in forest is third,

in forest you dont want to have more than 3axles, one front steering, and two on rear any thing more than this would create truck that is not capable to take any terrain, twin steer means truck would try to sit on front axles, 8x6 or 8x8 would help but than truck become too long,

having steering and even better steered+driven tag axle would help a lot, but at same time reduce possibility of axle articulation to terrain so classic tandem bogie on springs remain best option

truck needs to be little bit higher on front than rear to reduce tendency of digging front axle in mud while pulling hard

while truck is used offroad little, at first sight insignificant details make a difference

having more than one axle at same place makes a problem, for example look at tandem trailers that become popular in austria and even in germany, they are useless on terrain

with real trailer you would pass this in first attempt

look how his trailer slide away to wall.... real one wont do that as there is less force coming from truck on trailer, real one would eventually want to go straight

Tri drives are the standard in western Canadian logging operations. They've been pulling trees off the mountains for dang near 20 years now with no problems. Superior to a tandem drive setup.
