I just saw an ad and the trucker newspaper and they were advertising a $20,000 sign on bonus. I don't see how this can possibly be real. Does anyone know the details. When we left them 7 months ago they didn't even offer us $2 to stay.

Yeah I followed the link there and checked it out but it still seems way too good to be true. I'll call them tomorrow and see what's what.

Since they re are a part of Schneider now, it may have something to do with it. Schneider usually have pretty good team bonuses

We averaged about 18600 miles per month with them and came home for about 5 days a month. If they still have decent miles along with that bonus it would make it really hard to stay working for anybody else.

    bigkev1115 Thanks this.

Just a question and not trying to be a smart arse. But when you left them what did you have to offer them? And if after 7 months your willing to go back what was so bad you left in the first place? Again not being rude just curious.

We were one of their better teams and we're always in the top 10 to 15% as far as monthly totals 4 miles even though we usually went home for 4 or 5 days per month. We got the truck with 14,000 miles on and handed it back to them without a scratch a little over a year later with 245000 miles on it. We were never late for a load and never got a ticket. I think that's plenty to offer. The month after we left they announced their sale to Schneider so I think the office was in disarray as far as retaining drivers which is why they never made an attempt at the time to keep us. They called us a couple months ago to see if we wanted to come back but that was before they were offering a $20,000 sign on bonus. Watkins wasn't bad it's just that we were driving so much that we weren't getting any sleep and we felt like we were killing ourselves slowly. I don't know if you drive team but trying to sleep while the truck is going down the road it's not easy. We like our current company but in our hearts we are Mercenaries and are out for the big bucks so if the grass is seriously Greener somewhere else we will leave in a heartbeat. Another problem with watkins is that they screwed us out of our tuition reimbursement bonus so I really don't have any faith that they will come through with this $20,000 sign on bonus even if we went back. They also told us we could have a dedicated run but that never materialized. Truth is we're probably going to serve the rest of our time with our new company until we can afford our own truck and go to Landstar. I was just curious to see if anybody know any details about it has he don't often see $20,000 sign on bonuses advertised. I totally recommend walk ins for new drivers because if you read the threads about the other starter companies their head and shoulders better than they are and they don't make you go out for eight weeks with a trainer and work like a slave so someone else can get paid for your miles.

I would totally look at Old Dominion if we were looking to change companies. We're from the Northwest so I don't know if they hire from that area. It's not were unhappy with their current company it's just we know we could make more money if we were owner operators or leased to Landstar.
