How can a company have 2 USDOT numbers?

    Not sure, but if they have a separate brokerage, they may have a separate number for it.

    Companies can have multiple MC#'s under one USDOT#. MC# is just a docket # with insurance info and stuff. I noticed everytime our company changes addresses, they get a new MC# but keep the same USDOT#.

    I saw a company last night with 2 DOT numbers....

    One had a MC number with it & the other didn't

    We have Peterbilt tractors that pull live bottom trailers for filling bulk bags of sand or gravel, and they pull flatbeds. Same company, some trucks have 2 DOT #s, some have one or the other. It's a different division of the parent company that I work for hauling aggregate products in a transfer dump, which some have a different DOT# as well.

    This has changed a bit, The DOT is searching out carriers who, when one DOT number has gotten a bad record, switch over to the other number. They are cracking down on this and want only one number unless you have a big company with different subsidiaries
