Just Got a Job Interview For MBI. Whats it like out there in ND?

    Yep just what the title says. If i get this job it will be my first oilfield job as a oil hauler. With that being said how the money out there. Is it worth getting into if you can make 3200-3400 a month without working out there. Im not worried about home time. Just want to know if i can make close to $8000 a month hauling oil in North Dakota

    The short answer is, NO, you cannot make $ 8,000.00/ month hauling crude oil in North Dakota at this time working for MBI.
    The detailed answer is-
    A co-worker went back a few months ago and quit after a few weeks. His checks (during the nice weather) were 12-1500 every two weeks. I started my oilfield career with them 4 years ago and I am grateful. 12-15,000 a month was great. It was all hourly. Now they pay by the barrel. Their pay structure is such that you never know what each well pays. Rates were changing daily. If the well paid 75 on Monday and you hauled that well all five days, but the rate was 55 on Friday, you got paid 55 for the well all week. My co-worker went out for drinks with the girls from the office and got the 411 on how they were getting screwed. He is now working steady making 1200/week (hauling hazmat tanks not in the oilfield) and has a regular paycheck.
    If I was starting out in the oilfield, I would get on hauling crude in the New Mexico area, specifically in the Hobbs area. They need drivers and you can make about 55-60,000 and get the experience for later if the boom comes back.

    Yeah man I'd stay outta the patch at the moment lotta flux out there. Even when it was crazy booming we always looked at MBI like the rest of the trucking world looks at swift and england...starter company with very very few redeemable qualities. I was in the patch for years and can honestly say I never talked with a happy MBI driver. But their ads look encouraging and the rumors of big bucks will continue to help them fill seats.

    That being said if you have nobody at home busting your sack about being there frequently and most of your bills are paid up then heck yes get out there or down to Hobbs or something and get the oilfield jones out of your system. It CAN be very rewarding and if nothing else it'll give you a few stories to tell at the lunch counter of the TA or the pilot when you quit the patch and go back over the road lol

    Why would anyone move to the patch for 50-60k a year.. Almost all CDL A jobs make at least that after 2 yrs. and you dont have to live in east bum ###

    Check Twin Eagle, or Enterprise in New Mexico. I have had experience with Enterprise in the past.

    Thanks. I talked to arthur and he said they paying 25% of load working 60-70 hrs a week.

    Don't think I'll commit unless i can make close to at least 8000 a month. Do you think the boom is coming back soon?

    Because the infrastructure is almost built out with pipelines and storage tanks, I do not think we will see a boom like it was 4 years ago. Something unforeseen may happen that can change all of that such as a large war breaking out. You never really know until it happens.

    If you are talking about Art at MBI, yes they will pay you 25% but the gross rate to the truck changes all the time. There is no way to predict, or prove, what the rate to the truck will be from day to day. 25% of a moving target would be something I would not be interested with. Try to stay away from contract carriers and hire on with a midstream company like Enterprise or Twin Eagle. They are hauling their own product. Much larger margins to pay drivers.

    Why bother hauling crude oil with all its bs. I made more hauling water. If you want to make big $ now in the patch you are going to have to live in the truck and put in 16-18 hour days. But I was making 3500 week just last year working for a company on the rez.

    If you are looking for comfy 12 hours shifts and nice housing. Good luck finding someone who has steady work and paid shift change like it was 3-4 years ago.
