My GPS power cord broke before my first NYC trip

I tried using GPS in NYC once. And I'll NEVER try it again. I ended up unplugging it and broke out my trusted, and true atlas

 

Used a map book only and made me a better driver. GPS is not needed.

 

me too and only once.I ended up out in queens close but yet so far from the customer.I took the wrong exit thanks to my GPS.After over an hr in bumper to bumper traffic in a bad area judging by the buildings I got my NYC atlas out found my way back to the interstate and the customer was 2 exits away and a mile off the exit.But it still took time to get there with all the turns and traffic.

 

I don't own a GPS, never did. Never will after that. That particular trip was to retrieve a trailer the boss had bought. Rather than just giving directions, he just put his GPS in my truck for the trip. When I got home, I told him exactly where he could shove the stupid thing

 

Reading this thread, I can hear the rusty squeak of a bunch of fat old spines

 

I don't want to bash you but I think these units use the same power cords as some other devices, iirc it is a micro USB cable that can be used. Garmin is the same I think. and truck stops should have those cables for something like $10 - even though they cost them maybe 75 cents to buy.

 

The disadvantage there, however, is the amount of juice the cable and its source plug are rated for. I had 2 cell chargers. 1 from my old phone one for my new. Both plugged into 120v. both had the same micro USB plug on the other end. The problem is that the charger for the old phone didn't put out enough juice to effectively "fuel" the new phone.

I could definitely see that being an issue with a GPS that is, generally speaking, pulling a lot of juice.
