U can release the tractor brakes and idle if hooked to a trailer. There's a black button inside the inspection door of the apu to shut the apu off and still have heat if the alt light is on, or u just want to bypass the apu

On mine the apu has to run to let the heater work, but the mechanic showed me that black button to turn off the apu, then the heater will work, but no battery charging.

Truck should run without releasing brakes. Haven't come across one yet that won't shut down after a certain time at Walmart. If the APU isn't working, the truck idles.

If your panel looks like this, no reset. All you can do is push the power button on the panel for off, then turn back on and see if works. 15 and newer don't have reset switches.

They must limit the trucks for you guys in less extreme temp areas. Had no issue when my apu failed me over the summer and I didn't want to sleep in 100 degree temps so I idled the truck. Also idled the truck the other week when it was near -30 at night. Not taking any chances.

They sent me to Raymond to get it fixed this morning and the tech told me they are supposed to be changing the settings in all the trucks so they can idle
