Anything pre DPF, DEF or even EGR is good. Not a fan of gliders, they can be very costly and don't retain resale value.GCK Thanks this.

If you're interested in pre DEF, just buy a domestic 09 model and you're right there.

If you're going with a glider solely to bypass DEF, then you should be aware of this:
Effective 1/1/18, the EPA has mandated that trucks must pass the emissions standard in effect for the model year of the chassis, not the engine. That means that a 2019 truck with a 2009 engine in it still has to conform to the 2019 standards.
I haven't heard if the trucks built before that date will be grandfathered in; they likely will be. If not, your new truck may need to have all that emissions stuff added to it, which may mean a new engine.
Even if they are grandfathered, you should get your order in soon. -
New rules apply to new builds.

And there is a loophole in that reg allowing gliders to still be built business as usual but eventually they will be phased out.Studebaker Hawk and GCK Thank this.

Good to know. Thanks for the info.

Who buys a truck and worries about resale?dunchues Thanks this. -
The ones who are worried about Resale are the ones who aren't going to be in it for the long run.rabbiporkchop Thanks this.

Then why buy a glider? @iRookie claims gliders don't retain resale value but that link from 2014 says different.
