You don't pick stated any longer. They give you all of them, and you only pay if ta on those you run. It does matter what weight you pick. Some states allow more than 80k.

There are a handful of states that require increased weight on your apportioned registration card if you want to haul overweight permits in there states,and this increases the cost.Go ask in the Heavy Haul section.Yes,you can get a permit,but if you are stopped in these states,and you do not have the increase on your registration,you will be fined.45 years in the heavy haul business,that's why if you lease to Landstar regular haul your tags are around 1800,IIRC.
If you're in heavy haul,your tags are around 2300,because of the increase fee on the apportion. -
Most of those state won't issue an overweight permit unless it's on you cab card. Some like Iowa will issue 10% over your registered wgt and that's all

Montana you can register for 130k or so. You do not need an overweight permit to haul up to that unless an axle group is going to be overweight. Then you need the overweight permit.
