One of TQL's greatest competitive advantages is their willingness to lose money getting in with a customer. Obviously it's done with the intention of getting in there and making some money, but they are fine with losing money speculatively. He's cherry picking those situations to talk about 'only making 75 bucks' as though that's the norm. It's a little bit dishonest but he isn't technically lying.

I bet his average margin hovers around 12% and his $ per load is in the mid 200's. He'd also better be generating at least 3k a week in brokerage or he won't last at TQL.

You are correct sir...after I simmered down I realized that. The self serving crap really got me annoyed. 8 hours in an office and he's got it rough. Good hell.

Correct, I'm not saying the $75 or $100 margin is an average one but when I'm really trying to get a super low rate, it's because the margin is too small because the custy won't move off the market rate.

Also, we have to do 4k in revenue not 3k or we are fired.

Scottlav, what's your MC? If you're the quality carrier you claim to be and you want to attack me and my services, let's look up your stats.

Don't do this. This forum is for truck drivers not trucking company owners. There's a reason why EVERY BROKERAGE ON THE PLANET teaches new employees to get the drivers phone number and go around the dispatcher. It's because the drivers are usually pretty reliable sources of information and the dispatchers can be more or less counted on to lie.

You and I both know that most of our problems come from dispatchers lying about the location, status (empty or full, repaired or not), and HOS of the truck. Yeah some drivers are awful, but the system is already setup to punish them severely. It's the trucking company owners you're pissed at.

EDIT: And don't worry, these truckers are just as annoyed with those trucking companies as you are. In fact they've been screwed longer, harder, and for more money than you have.

Man you ain't gettin anywhere near my mc number. I deal with enough brokers to know who's good and whos crummy, and what lanes pay and what lanes are crap. I've gotten to the point that I don't even call TQL for loads anymore because it's an excersize in futility. On the off chance that I DO get a decent rate from you guys I know it's not really a load until I get the product on board my trailer, cuz the rate shopping continues even after I get my rate con. And I don't do business that way. Honestly man I'm the most laid back individual you've ever seen, except when you mess with my money or lie to me. TQL's real competitive advantage is the ability to lie with a straight face.

Look man we all know the outfit you work for is the lowest of the low. And in this business that's sayin something. We couldn't survive out here in the current marketplace without occasionally using a brokers services. There ARE some really good ones out there, and if you really are who you say you are I'm sure we'll be seeing you at one of those real soon. Just save yourself the hassle and stop trying to defend that joke of a company. Cuz it's falling on blind eyes.

I would agree most times the issue is with the dispatcher, not the driver.

I'm not going to defend people I don't know, but I'm at the corporate office in Cincinnati and it must be a whole different ballgame compared to satellite offices because the guys I work with are nothing but professional and courteous on the phone. Kind of hard not to be with the entirety of the executive staff in the same building working hands on with us.

Nah buddy. Being a freight broker is a grindingly stressful job that requires you to be on call 24/7/365. I haven't taken a real vacation since I got in. I've literally had something hanging over my head continuously for years. I'll give you credit for getting screwed more than us, but I lost Dole because on my third load the trucking company I was dealing with decided to send me a solo (with a decoy body in the truck to make it look like a team) instead of a team on a load of berries.

Dole would have been a big ####ing customer and it was definitely supposed to be the anchor account that made me into a viable freight broker going forward. Instead I had to make another 2-3000 phone calls and find other customers. That truck literally stole six figures in future pay (over a couple of years) and an enormous amount of actually miserable work that (no offense) you probably wouldn't be able to stand doing.

And that was just the worst example. Trucking company screw ups cost me tens of thousands of dollars per year.
