Yes they are not in business to create competition but just never liked being used either and that is what went through my mind being governed at 60 mph at Swift that I could do better and didn't have to settle for work where you were not fairly compensated. I can see how the lifestyle suits some forever seeing as one gets to travel but I wouldn't expect much starting out. For those that last and do work their way up, then more power to you because I still like to believe that you can work yourself into a dedicated gig where the miles are guaranteed and you know how much you will make day in and day out.
I don't regret leaving the industry though because otherwise I would not have seen the Caribbean or Hawaii doing drive test work in telecom so I would say it was worth the sacrifice to see more in my travels. I still have the option to drive and can probably call up my HR if I want to go back on the road but doesn't work that way since I'm married lol!
At that point, I chose not to turn my back on developing my computer skills and taking a different career path. Hey if are those 55 mph ever up their speed limits and the trucks ever become ungoverned then give me a call, I'd love to drive again and max out daily on my miles. All the restrictions in the industry are flat out bull and pardon me negativity.
It was nice when you could do 10 hours and sleep 8 or continuously run a split sleeper schedule and get the load there and run tight. Oh well my best to the truckers that deliver the loads to market. I do appreciate the truck drivers having been one but just dislike the lot of the companies operating and treating people like crap.
Thanks! -
Anyway they didn't retain personnel both experienced and inexperienced alike and Swift Transportation crossed union lines at the Volvo plant in Dublin, VA anyway. Pretty messed up and if Swift Trans. new what it was doing, it would have kept that project going indefinitely. They lost money from the sounds of it. -
So with Swift's division at Dublin, VA, they eventually sold back to auto truck. Seeing how they did business, it was a good thing that I left but to any trucker looking to leave, never quit far away from home or it will be a long Greyhound Bus ride back. An experience I'll never forget traveling Greyhound on Swift's dime from Dublin, VA back to Portland, OR. Hey so long ago lol!

Isint there a post count minimum before you can create a thread? Or is that just for pm's?
-
That's just PM's.
How do you suppose new members post new threads in The Welcome Wagon?
