So so true, take a deep breath and get control, think and then respond!!

  4. The hotel was nice and breakfast was free. Also, I wasn't expecting the military type in your face instruction either, and that really threw me off. But ... the instructor is a nice and decent person. He wants you to succeed. From reading your post, I think you will be fine.

  5. Ok, story time - this is for the military guys and gals. I have never had the honor of serving. I was a Marine Corp Officers Training Candidate many years ago. I was unable to pass the physical (I am, however, able to pass the DOT physical). But, for those who have served and continue to serve - thank you. This "story" is for all of you, but especially for the men and women who are serving.

Here is a picture of my cousin, pointing to a picture of our cousin. The photograph he is pointing to, was the 2nd to last photograph that Bill Biggart ever took. He was killed when the 2nd tower at the WTC collapsed on 9/11/01. Bill Biggart's wife discovered the roll of film when his body was recovered, and she had the roll developed. These pictures are on display at the Newseum in Washington, DC.

Here is a better closeup of the picture. Mike was an engineer in the WTC and had helped people escape until he nearly collapsed. As you can see, he is surrounded by NYFD. They helped him get to an ambulance. Mike also survived the first WTC bombing.

Now, in the first picture I posted, you see my cousin pointing to the picture - here he is shaking hands with someone you all would recognize:

This is his brother - my other cousin. You might recognize him from US Army advertisements for the Special Forces:

Mike gave both of them a key to the WTC - a gift showing his appreciation for their service.

I just thought you might like this story.

I went thru training with Millis at one of their other schools. Like most other company training schools it is very fast paced and I often wondered / wished I had gone to my local vocational school where much more time is devoted towards hands on maneuvers.

I ended up failing my road test the first time because of the alley dock. I passed it the 2nd time and made it through. I've been with them 1.5 years since graduation. Every day I get better but some days I can't back worth a ####.

I've learned that 99% of any backing maneuver is set up. When you finish and get on your own, take your time, don't be afraid to get out and look. And don't worry about the super truckers who drive too fast and may be behind you in line trying to rush you. I have told plenty to go #### themselves. Many of them are one step away from hitting something because they rush and don't look. Being over confident and sure of yourself is a sure way to a screw-up someday both on the highway and at a dock.

  7. Don't worry about me guys - I am going to complete a local tech school cdl course and go back to Millis. I will be fine.

Wonderful story and pictures as well!! Thank you to them all for their service, and for you trying as well, that's all you can do, you had the heart for it and that is what matters most.

I can see why they chose your cousin for their advertisement, he has a very Pierce Brosnan look about him, tough but good looking. I miss getting to enjoy the M16/M203 combination he has there in that bottom picture... thanks for the post! :)

I hope I didn't come across as arrogant or unsympathetic because I know I may have a very hard time passing those tests and I know I will have bad days even later on down the line with experience. I'm sure you're right about set up being the main thing, I believe also when she missed it the first time she got upset (he may have been riding her hard too) and she lost her cool cause you could see she was visibly upset, then when he took over he was mad as a hornet the moment he got out of the truck and I don't think that helped him any either, he actually was pulling in perfect twice but doubted himself and stopped and pulled back up and tried again and was was off...so I think what someone else said earlier was true in this situation, take a breath and be calm and then do it, much better chance to get it right than when you are so frustrated. Patience grasshopper, patience...

why would 200 gallons of fuel bother you? That's two days between fuel ups. We don't run west coast so you don't need to go that far without fuel. Regional I drove for years with one 100 gallon tanks with no issues. Now I have 160 gallons of fuel and can go two days without fuel if i need to.
