I have my own truck and can get a trailer even for rent for less then that. I understand them making money off that. Rate isn't great, I average $1.65 per mile pulling a box, but that's just a number. At the end of the week I did a lot of sitting and could only gross around $1500-$2800.

You'll see about 1500-2000 miles and about 1.50-1.65 cpm at CRST. I was in your shoes once. I saw the good, the bad and the ugly posts about Malone. I had to find out on my own because you just never know. I got my answer let's just say that!

I had a real good friend of mine that I've known for a long time that's an owner operator that was running for Malone last year and let me tell you he didn't do very well and had to deadhead huge amounts of miles to try to find loads... One of their problems is their CSA scores are so bad that they're having a hard time picking up customers because customers don't want their Freight on their trucks

Do they dispatch or do you get to pick you loads?

I've had to chase some loads for money which required 100-300 miles in DH. Sucks but sometimes it was the only way. Try to minimize those days.

You pick your own loads they have a load board .like mercer and landstar . The pay shows all in so you would have to take their 25% out . At mercer what you see is what you get. Landstar i am not sure of.. hope it helps.

I've been with Malone for a year. The first six months as an l/o the last six months as an o/o.

There's things I do and don't like but everything is there to be successful. They give you a paper with their hot zones.

If you stay in that area you won't have to work hard to GROSS $2.00 a mile. If you go outside that area it's hit and miss.

Most people who end up leaving either go home to much (I am in that category) or they prefer to get dispatched and not worry about their next load. ( I have a friend o/o in that category and he makes plenty of money with Crete now)

Some agents could be calling me with amazing loads but I don't answer their calls because they irritated me at one time or another.

Some agents call me and I can't get off the phone with them because we talk so long.

I was in Dallas today, was offered Las Vegas and Illinois. Turned them both down and brokered a load going towards home.

It's not perfect here but if you like to be left alone, this is the place. If you get lazy or unmotivated you can do that here too but the money isn't there.

Either way you have to be proactive. If you see a load that picks up today you want but can't pick up till tomorrow. Call, there's a good chance you'll get the load. That's proactive.

If you want to get unloaded, then go eat and shower and watch a movie. You can do that too but it's very unprofitable.

    Sorry for the long post.

If you're like me no matter how much money you do or don't make you'll hate giving anyone 25% off the top it doesn't matter who's name is on the door.

But that's the most common o/o contract out there. When I leave here it'll be because only my name is on the door.
    Good luck.

One of the things you should look at before picking a company is do they run lease purchase trucks. Its pretty general knowledge to stay away from them because you are in competition with the L/P trucks that are making payments to the company your leased to.Its only normal that the company will cater to them first. But that is a general rule don't know if Malone does this but it seems L/P trucks at Malone out numbers the guys with there own truck by a wide margin
