Chains on ice

Black ice there isn't much to grip to. Black ice is a thin layer. Even with chains black ice is very dangerous. If you have 3 inches of ice the chains actually take grip by digging into ice. Can't get dug into ice that's about the thickness of a sheet of paper. While they may help on black ice it is still hard to stop as chains don't bite as well on black ice.


But what do I know super trucker. Hammer down. I'm sure your chains are rated for 70+ mph too.

 

Do you think chains might grip asphalt or concrete once they break through black ice?

 

Ice is ice. No matter what surface it's on. No matter how thick or thin it is. It's all the same sheet. Super trucker. And black ice isn't always THIN.

 

You know, there is a difference, kinda like between snow and yellow snow ))

Local "X"driver of 97 weighing in. Hell if your chained on black ice you shouldn't be going that fast to start with. 25-30 mph? #chainsdomatter. It's been a rough time in C.O. this season with more pretty snowflakes on the way. Our roads are going to be trashed by Spring. You can't deliver if your in the ditch.
