Had 3 incidents where a CB would have been handy last night. Came up on a Gaines Motor Freight truck with his trailer door swinging in the breeze. Tried horn, hand signals and radio, no response. Last I saw he was still doing the rolling road block in the second lane from the right. Few miles further on at the I- 95 S I495 S cluster 4 4 wheelers in the lane beside me decided to join each other with the 2nd in line winding up dead stopped in my lane. Called out a warning to other south bounders about now having 2 center lanes blocked. No response. Later a northbouder called out a pick up had just lost a truck cap he was carring in his bed. He got no response so I called out to get a clarification on which lanes were blocked he replied far left and maybe part of center. Ater that another north bound chimed in.

Anybody who says CB is not needed by a trucker should ask themselves: how would cell, sirus, ham, apps or whatever else more-modern device might be suggested have helped those truckers? How CB would have helped is obvious. The other question is not.

I still run a CB in my truck, along with a 2M/70CM amateur radio. If I don't want to listen to it, I have the option to turn it off. If I need to hear the road reports or just want to see who's up for a chat, I can turn it on.

I have to say it has come in handy during back ups and speed traps. Nothing better than when truck drivers are radioing up to 10 miles "there's one sitting at mile marker XX under the overpass" and then watch everyone around me who's speeding, suddenly slam on brakes because (1.) Their radar detector doesn't alert until the cop's instant on radar comes on, or (2.) They "just now" saw the cop. Meanwhile I cruise right along at the speed limit because I had an early warning.

NYC MTA now broadcasting on channel 19 tunnel heights. Must be new as the base stations that usually tie up the channel with their rants are complaining about the MTA tying up the channel.

Are they broadcasting the actual clearances or the fake ones they have posted? Like the bridges at JFK that show 12' 6" but the actual is at least 13' 6"

I don't know if they are the posted or correct heights . The ones I heard were for the mid town tunnel and the Hugh Carey tunnels. I do know a week or so back they had a truck get snagged in the midtown tunnel.
