First post so please be easy on me.
I've decided to get in the business. I've always been drawn to it I guess and ready to make a change in career.
I'm retired from the Air Force and have been in the car business for the last 7 years.
I need a little advice on a first job. I've been spending hours researching different companies too see where I would be a good fit. The information and reviews online becomes a bit overwhelming. The job reviews for most companies become a blur and tend to sound the same.
I live in central Texas and plan to put myself through a local college to get my CDL within the next few months.
Any recommendations?

I am also from Central TX . Yes getting your cdl at a local college is gonna give you a lot of opportunities . There will be a few local gigs that might take you at first and a bunch of mega fleets that will take fresh graduates . Don't waste any time and be prepared to be a rookie for a while , get 6 months under your belt with the schooling and you will be good to go .
Lonesome Thanks this. -
The reviews tend to get blurry because no one company is going to satisfy every driver. There are going to be bad days then there will be great days. You just have to be able to find a happy median.
Coming from a guy that fell for the ######## story twice of you'll make about the same but you'll be driving a large car with a small company... Don't listen to that wash, find a company that serves what you want and go with it.
If you want over the road the are of companies out there.Protein Hauler Thanks this. -

Central Texas, as in Austin?

First, Thank you for your years of service to our country!
Second:
You did not mention if you were wanting to be a company driver or an owner operator.
Also, what kind of freight?
Over the road or local?
If your thinking about being an owner operator or hauling cars... or especially if your thinking about being an OO and hauling cars...lol.. you might want to check out this thread: https://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/threads/new-to-car-hauling.337269/
If your not wanting to be an OO and/or, If your not wanting to haul cars then there is probably not much there that would benefit you.
Best of luck! -
Thanks fo the feedback. I'm in San Antonio and plan to be a company driver initially. I realize I'll probably have to get a year or two of experience to open up some more opportunities.

What are you actually wanting to do? Just make money? Spends weeks out driving all over the States? Prefer to stay Regional and get by the house every weekend? Willing to relocate elsewhere in Texas to make more money?
If you give us more details on what you want to do, we can offer more assistance.
