You said the weight limit sign was in kilometers. Kilometers is a measurement of length not weight. Basically you said the bridge weight limit said xx feet.

Yes, I am local driver. I don't think they have a special permit because that Shell gas station is maybe a half a mile before that bridge. Once we drop the gas we take the same route back so we are nowhere near that bridge. I was going to different location that day through Washington St.

Then their was another time in Illinois on a two Lane highway and no low clearance sign then miles later a bridge said 13":5". I stopped called cops an officer came and said I can go under it.I said ok but if I get stuck I'm holding you responsible,he smiled.

Your going to need a lawyer plus the sign reads right it is a truck route with a 15 ton weight limit. I hope the best for you. Since your a local driver it may help or may not.. I would get a lawyer and let it be.

Most times it's not even that blatant. In a lot of cases I've seen signs laid out in a manner which would confuse any non-local driver. I'm guessing, in most cases, it's probably not done on purpose; it's just that the city erected the signs in a half-baked manner, and the local enforcement agency is taking advantage of the oversight.

Certain "No Trucks" signs are a good example of this: in some towns I've been through, those signs are erected about a block from the intersection you're turning from. By the time you see the sign you've already completed the turn and, just by "coincidence", there is absolutely no turnaround nearby, and you're forced to go down that restricted street looking for one and hoping you don't get caught.

That's a real sneaky way to fill the city coffers IMHO...

PA has lots of those; you can't see the sign until you complete the turn and drive 25 yards and Boom, there's the sign right behind that bush.

For that amount of money I would have me quite a few signs made saying "Truck Route 40 Tons"or something to that effect that would match the local signage . In the middle of the night I would erect the signs. Early the next morning I would request a local officer or govt official meet me at the location of the signs and take their photographs while they are looking at the signs and trying to figure out what is going on. That would then be my court evidence.
