Fuel hauler here. Get in a routine and never deviate, and you'll have no issues. These fuel tankers are stable. Most tankers have baffles unless they are food grade. The bobtail truck, loaded, can be a little top heavy. Take your turns slower than you think you need to, and don't accelerate roughly, or slam the brakes. You'll do fine driver, congrats on the new baby.

Do this for a while, and then go work for the big boys driving a truck/trailer and doing gas station delivery for a premier carrier. It's legit work, you got a foot in the door to the most respectable niche (in my opinion) of truck driving.

Stop at those railroad crossings. People will try to rear end you because they don't get this concept, so always use the flashers.

I've ran propane it's easy work and yes not much surge. Can be overwhelming at first just make sure you follow procedures and don't take any shortcuts as I seen guys with years of experience get burned.Good luck!

Give it 6 months to a year and you should be good. Having HAZMAT tanker experience right out the door will look excellent. Most gas station delivery services use a truck and trailer setup, it almost has 0 off tracking unlike a semi. So you can basically drive it like a bobtail, just watch the trailer in your mirrors.

Not so, most elliptical fuel trailers [MC306 +/or DOT 406] are baffled, Cryogenic trailers are baffled. Most round 306/406 are not baffled though compartments are common. MC307/DOT407 and MC312/DOT412 are usually NOT baffled

yep. None of our chemical trailers are baffled(even the big 7900 gal. ones) We run single compartment jet fuel trailers that are baffled and multi compartment gas trailers.
Also have high pressure propane and amine trailers.

Let's not get caught up on semantics. Baffles serve the purpose of breaking up liquid surge, which undoubtedly is the end result of having a compartmentalized trailer. My heart was in the right place though, I assure you.

However, most chemical fleets have more singles than multi pots unless they specialize in solvents or fuel. I've seen a few compartmented acid tank-wagons but could count them all on one hand.

Back in the 90's a few of us were asked for input on the modification of an old MC312 [by a tank repair facility] into a training trailer for Mobay where we had piping inside to create various leaks powered by garden hose coupled to the rear bumper and we added an extra dome lid, blanked off from the barrel for smoke grenades to simulate fuming acids. It was also equipped with a standpipe to simulate east coast acid trailers with 4 bolt flange outlets and a belly mounted hydraulic internal and QRB external valves. Those smoke grenades used to scare the first responders!

They can build anything but baffles are a problem as chemical shippers believe they present a cleaning problem which isn't a hassle with most petroleum products.

Id say ruffly 60% of our chem trailers are 2 compartment and double conical. But I think its mostly for weight reasons here so that we can maximize our weight on the axle groupings.

everything went well on my drive, truck was an automatic. It was loaded to the max with propane & boi i tell you i didnt fill the surge one bit,it felt smooth driving it. the driver who was with me kept telling me how this is going to be the easiest job ive had. little does he know ive made gd money literally doing nothing but standing around.

from what ive seen with delivering propane, it looks easy. i like how the hose has a button u press to roll it up. safety is going to be good. just follow the rules & respect the product & it will be smooth sailing.

he was a nice guy cracking jokes the whole time. now i have to go through the hoops of physicals & test. probably another 3 weeks before i can start driving.
