I have about 15 years over the road experience, and yeah I have posted some bad stuff about good old Swift. everything I have posted is true and from my own experience with them.Sure Swift does have some good drivers and a whole lot of lousy ones too. I did a short stint with Swift,4 months to be exact. I have never seen a more screwed up company in my life.A place where the dispatchers,or oh excuse me DMs got away with murder and the top brass stuck up fior them. I ran out of the Columbus,Oh terminal, and the way it was managed was a big joke. I personally watched DMs sitting around chewing out a driver on the phone, then when they hung up about 4 of them would have a good laugh about it.Not very professional in my book.My particular DM was OK till he found out that I knew more than he did about trucking. After that I was on his sh-t list. I could sit here all day posting horror stories about Swift but I really have other things to do.Anything I have posted about them is fact.I have driven for the old MS Carriers, been an Owner operator, and also drove for Roehl. My worst four months in trucking were with Swift.

Roadog, sorrey you had a bad go.Maybe it was the termanal, newbes go work for what suits your situation!Oh buy the way,SWIFTS been good to me sofar, plus no kids wife no bills! That works for me.Maybe not someone els.Its a calling for sum, money hungry for others, and thats OK.IM OUT Lost Dutchman.
-
Lost Dutchman, glad to hear you get along good with Swift, and yeah you are right my experience was very bad with them. But if you are happy there so be it. Guess I have been around the truckin industry long enough to know whats going on at a company, and I did not like what I saw at Swift. After my short stint with Swift I sogned on with Roehl, and man, what a difference.Course I have since retired for about the third time, and just recently celebrated my 71st birthday. However,I stiil keep my CDL up to date, cause you never know whats around the next corner.

This has nothing to do with SWIFT but your comment, "I have never heard of a company that fires you on the first offense for something that is not considered a crime" I worked for a company that did fire me after one accident.
I was not giving any type of warning verbal or written. My accident happened on the 10th of Feb and they fired me on the 12th, no investigation, police report, I was told from the officer that took the report (I was not given a citation) that the report would take one week before it could be released to me.
They discharged me then put they released me due to 'SAFETY'
which in turn into a loop hole in BLACKBALLED in this industry. So anything is possible.
There are some things that might be not "ring true" it could be the person it not good in describing the incident, sometimes a person would have to be a witness to see what really happened.
-
Well, I said offense, not accident. The incident that the person described being fired for had nothing to do with an accident(at least according to him)or driving a truck for that. I NEVER said that the company could not fire you after an accident, because a lot will. 1 Accicdent at WalMart and you are terminated usually.
Also, you well know(or you should if you have been in the industry for any length of time) that the officer on the scene cannot assign blame to anyone in the accident, the blame is issued upon investigation of the company and any insurance concerns that are involved or a re-enactment of the accident by law enforcement or others. The Smith System is regularly used in any accident investigation, even if your company does not subscribe to or teach the system, ALL insurance investigations use this system to determine fault, obviously the fault was placed on you, or your company had a policy concerning the type of accident you were involved in. Also, beleive me, your insurance or company safety office can get a preliminary report within 12 hours, you may not be able to get 1 for a week, but your company can. I worked for a company once, that if you totalled their equipment, you were automatically terminated-your fault or not.
By the way a safety issue does not necessarily "blackball" you in this industry--since a safety violation could be anything, forgetting to make sure your airlines are not touching your catwalk is a safety violation. Most of the time what "blackballs" you in this industry is lying to either an employer or a prospective employer or emitting certain things concerning your background or record.
Just because you were not issued a citation does not mean that you were not at fault or that you were not wrong, it just means that the officer did not feel one should be issued. -
A company can put that you abandoned a load or equipment on a DAC in the "No Rehire" area.
-
actually they cant, although they can put a notation on the bottom, like they do if you had an accident.
That is the purpose of the line that says:
WORK RECORD:Other
Then a notatoin, but the only thing that they can put on the ELIGIBLE FOR REHIRE is either 1. review for rehire or 2.NO
But then again why would you abandon a load or equipment? If you do you are responsible for your own ride home if you do so. Also abandoning a load or equipment is considered as a DOT chargeable offense which BTW, will be noted (like I said) on the bottom of each employer's area. -
I wouldn't know because I have never done it. All I know is it gets listed on the DAC.
-
I really have followed this string on your subject matter, but in regards to this subject.
If there is anything on your DAC you can go to the USIS (DAC) website and get the form to dispute anything that is on your report.
Hopefully you have some type of proof showing that you did not do what the reporting company is saying about you.
There will be an investigation on the charges against you and if they are found to be false then the information can or will be taken off of your report. You have to show some type of record to send with your dispute.
Good Luck.
