UPDATE: Thanks for all the input guys. I am typing this in Memphis, back at the shipper, waiting to be unloaded first thing in the AM.
I stuck to my guns, got $2300 for the return trip, (867mi) so 2k for linehaul and $300 for 2 days layover. It actually turned out to be more than I hauled it for originally. I ended up negotiating with a different guy than the one I booked the load with (let's just say we agreed to disagree).
Shipper was Kreuger out of Memphis, broker Cavalry. Proceed with caution lol!albert l, double yellow, tucker and 5 others Thank this. -
Just to add, to the "dump it, sell it or take it home" crowd, I would make darn sure that your ### is covered really and truly before pursuing one of those options. It's one thing for a couple pallets of rejected melons.
I checked the retail price online at Walmart for the product I had. $10.26 per 12 pack and sold out. The guy I spoke to at the local supermarket told me to name my price once I sent him pics. I could have made 15k easily on that load. No doubt I'd have gotten sued for much more.
Best option if all else failed would have been a warehouse. I called around and got a place that would have stored it for $5 a month per pallet. Plus an initial handling fee of $5 per pallet, $6 for standard pallets (it was floor loaded) and some miscellaneous fees. At least product would be safe and insured, and you'd recover your costs prior to it being released. Plus karma is a b**ch, always play it on the up and up..that way you don't get a nasty surprise in the mail six months later. -
I just got to add this, one thing I want to see come out in regulations is forcing these brokers who do not own the load to disclose everything about the load, so if it comes from another broker, it is in the record for the driver/owner to see. This stuff would be avoided but glad it worked out.

We all learned something on this saga. Thank you for the comeback with the result.
Too many people leave out the end of the story and then you're just left wondering??? -
