It isn't really sneaky. It's not thinking from a driver perspective. They put the signs up where they THINK they will be seen. It's the same type of not using your head that's found all over the world. Stupid isn't exclusive to transportation and traffic signs.

You may get some sympathy if you could prove you were not a local and had gotten lost however as i learnt years ago when i appealed a citation the judge simply said "son ignorance is no excuse." I guess you need to weigh up the options if a lawyer costs say $5000 and the fine is $25,000 then it still might be cheaper to hire him, that is if he / she can get you off the fine.

In this case it wasn't ignorance. It was willful disregard for the posted bridge weight limit. He admitted to seeing and reading the sign and chose to cross it vs getting help backing out.

I m wondering how much were you grossing when you got scaled by the trooper? For example if you were grossed out, you re looking at a fine of $846 for every ton over 15 tons

I would have said, "The fine is how much?"... then opened the valve on the tank and tossed a match.

Did they take you to a scale? Or did you tell them how heavy you were,

I may be way off here but it seems to me that "Truck route" implies that the route is acceptable for trucks. Trucks commonly weigh considerably more than 33,000 pounds! Geez for that matter a decent size RV is well in excess of that.!

It almost seems like that is a set up or trap to lure you in for a fine.

As for that idiot woman who destroyed the old bridge, well she obviously had no business driving a semi that she admitted she was unable to back up.

As for not being able to convert from tons to pounds... Really?? Her CDL should be revoked on the grounds of gross stupidity.
