All you old hats (farts?) need to remember that you are going to retire some day, and you need a strong generation of youngin's to take over. ;)

There was a piece of dunnage under that side but none under the other. Basically there so the piece did not bounce and allow the dunnage to move.

You do not want to chain concrete pieces when there is no dunnage under it. The flexing of the trailer and no flexing of the concrete usually means a broken piece. They tend to not like that.

Didn't think of that since all my dunnage is 8'.

February is barely half done and grain bin season has already started.

Showed up at the customer, nobody at the shipper told him he needed forks to unload the bin, so we try chains on the bucket, didn't help. Fortunately he had a neighbour/friend with some forks and we got it all off only a couple hours after I showed up.

Oh it's 8' but running the length of the trailer, not across.

Well hmmm. Why wouldn't you run 3 accross the wide section with 3 chains across? Or just 2 across? Not tryin to be a pain. Just pickin your brain.

Because of the flex/bounce in the center of the trailer. That chain in the center was just tight enough to keep the hooks from coming undone. What you basically have is a self supporting load that you only secure near dunnage. 48' long so I needed 6 chains. Rear was the heavier end so I put three chains there, two on the front and the one on the passenger side.

When the trailer flexes upwards it will slam the chain back down on the concrete and either damage concrete or break a chain or trailer.

If you want to give an older hat (or fart) a compliment down here, you call him a "hand".

Like this: "I'm sure glad you knew how to get that truck running again, Hand."
Comes from the days where the most respected men on a ranch were called "Top Hands" and was shortened from there.
Learned something new today. Thank you, Hand.

More plate steel. Temps went above freezing today. Was such a nice change.
