We come close to putting the 6C 8.3 in , but it was just shy of the needed HP . Was a company near here that had one in a 261 Pete , hauled empty soda cans . They were above 11 mpg.

Now that is funny right there LoL. One of my favorites was the guy in the Cessna plane called him up and was going to fly over Area 51 and vanished on the air.. Lmao that was entertainment making the miles go by. I didn't even have satellite radio back then. AM dial looking for those power stations pushing out the big signal. 1100am Cleveland, 1510 Nashville, 840 Louisville... there were a bunch more I can't remember them all...

281 was the 2 axle version of the 351. Butterfly hood Aluminum radiator surround that looks the same as the 389 of today.

262 was a Cummins NH series. Similar to the NC series, only smaller with 1 fewer headbolts, and it didn't have oil cooled pistons, so you couldn't turn them up and have them last.

Because of the horsepower, and that it was a 2 axle instead of 3 axle, my dad hauled less weight, and that also contributed to better mileage.

If you had a tandem trailer, you can gross 66,000 lbs with a single drive axle.

Do you remember those pics I posted in the garage section about a year or so ago? Some older gentleman in Alabama that had a big shop and worked on a lot of the local area trucks. But he also had a thing for 359's and had several really nice original ones parked around? You ever get over towards AL? They are kind of off the beaten path I could pm you where they are at.

I pulled out the old road atlas and looking on googlemaps. I can't remember the name but I know where it's at and will pinpoint it. Just don't want to post it publicly. Keep it close to your vest.. My buddy told me about them and stopped by there. I've driven by and seen them but never stopped. From what I was told he's nice and enjoys talking about those trucks and been offered a lot of money for them. Doesn't seem interested in selling. But you know maybe he would it just has to be the right person, not someone that would butcher them.
