Anybody care to update? Talked to one of the drivers couple days ago and said A&R was real slow right now?

It's going well. We were a little slow for the past few months but freight is picking up now. I have been staying very busy.

Yes February and March were a little slow, but this month things have picked up. I have stayed really busy all of April. We are almost never slow, so when it does slow down a little everyone gets all excited and start complaining.

Yep, I ran out of the Morris IL terminal and they have a lot of "out and back" freight. You load at the rail yard in the Morris terminal, deliver the load and return to the terminal for your next load. I lived about 45 min from the terminal so I was home most nights. I typically only slept in the truck when I would run to Ohio and after I delivered pick up a load in Cleveland or Columbus heading back towards IL. Getting home almost every night depends on what terminal you run out of, and how much regional or local freight they have.

I have an application in with A&R, they checked out my record & want to hire me. I would be based at Decatur, AL but pulling loads out of Nashville rail yard. what are the cities I will see often. Recruiter said Decatur has a lot of "system" freight, I guess that means OTR.

    What's so hard about loading/unloading? I'm a door swinger.

    Thanks

A&R provides good training as far as loading and unloading. I was a trainer for about 4 months before I left. The most important part is not to get overwhelmed. After doing the job for a few months it starts to click and become 2nd nature. There are a lot of different types of plastic and they each load slightly differently. I wrote out a guide on how to load the different product family's to give to my trainees. They added it into the drivers manual they will give you durring orientation. That will help if you come across a product you have never loaded before. The orientation at Morris makes it seem more complicated than it really is. Once you get with your trainer at your terminal you should have no problem picking it up.

Sounds exciting, definitely looking forward to hearing more about what you as you progress through training and orientation etc. I inquired with A&R, but my lack of OTR experience is my lone setback. Good luck!
